DBAFT-EQUALIZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented. Oct. 30, 1906.v 7
Application filed Apri 17, 1906. Serial No. 312,232.
To all whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE M. GOODALE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county ofFulton and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Draft-Equalizer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to four-horse draftequalizers employed upon gang-plows, harvesters, and similar implements or machines, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the efliciency and utility of devices of this character.
With this and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described andclaimed.
-In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved. device applied.- Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
The improved device comprises two beams,
which for the purposes of this description are referred .to as the primary beam 10 and secondary beam 1 1, the primary beam being next to the plow orother implement to which the device is applied and the secondary beam being next to the horses.
The primary beam 10 is connected by a link 12 intermediate its length to the clevis (represented at 13) of the gang-plow, portions of the beams being represented at 14 15.
The beams 10 11 are coupled near one end by straps 16 and also coupled intermediate their ends by a strap 17, the straps being located at opposite sides of the link 12, as shown in I ig. 2.
A bell-crank lever 18 is pivoted at 19 to the beam 10 near one end, and a bell-crank 20 is pivoted at 21 to the'beam 11 at the end opposite to the bell-crank 18.
The strap 17 is extended rearwardly of the beam 11 and connected, respectively, by rods 22 23 to the rear ends of the bell-crank levers 18 and 20.
shown. I
The clevis 13 is offset laterally from the implementvto which the device is attached as, for instance, the beams 1415 of a gangplowand the link 12 is located relatively near the bell-crank lever ,18, so that the doubletree 24 is disposed nearer the line of draft passing through the link 12 than the doubletree 25, so that when the draft is applied to the swingletrees in the ordinary manner the side draft upon the implement to which the device is attached is eliminated, as will be obvious.
The beams 10 11 will preferably be of wood and the other parts, except the doubletrees and swingletrees, are of metal of suitable strength to withstand the strains to whic they are subjected.
The device is simple in construction, may be inexpensively manufactured, and operates effectually for the purposes described.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new isy In a draft-equalizer, a primary beam and a secondary-beam spaced apart, links movably coupling said beams at spaced intervals, one of said links extended rearwardly of the primary beam, means for coupling said primary beam intermediate its ends to the implement to be drawn forward, bell-crank levers pivoted respectively to said beams near their oposite ends, coupling means between said bell-crank levers and said extended link, and doubletrees having swingletrees coupled thereto and connected respectively at the outer ends of said bell-crank levers.
1 In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE M. GOODALE.
