CALICO-IRINTING MACHINE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 823, dated July 9, 1838.`

To all 'whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, ALBEN SIBLEY, of Pawtucket, county of Bristol, and State `-of l\Iassac`husetts,have made 'an Improvement in ,Calico-Printing Machines, of which Il do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description.

`To the 3d printing rollr or` engraved vcopper shellon a 3 colored machine, orto thetth printing roll or engraved copper shell on a 4a colored printing machine,

marked AV (on the drawing attached to this specification) I place a color box made of copper Vor wood for holding the coloring matter used in printing oalicoes,gmarked D: in` this box I place a furnishing 'roll made of woodmarked G for furnishing the coloring matter to the copper shell or roll A on the arbor of which I put a gear wheel for the purpose of driving the furnishing roll gear wheel, which is attached to the end of the gudgeon of the roll. The wheel is marked B. This gives motion to the furnishing roll which carries the coloring matter with it onto the copper shell above mentioned. I place the cleaning doctor shear and doctor E E back of the furnishing roll which works in the coloring matters in the box when printing; this is held in its proper position by means of bearings attached to Y the side of the machine. On the bottom of the color box is a board, marked P the ends of which project to the side of the machine for supporting the color box, and keeping it in its proper position, I put a studl of iron in the side of the machine, from which hangs a piece of iron marked H, on the end of which is a screw and nut to raise and fall the piece of iron on which rests the bottom of the color box; this is marked F.` The piece connected by a joint to F and marked VGr is intended for raising and falling the color box same as H. A piece of iron pro- ]ects from theV side of the machine P in which is a slot to receive the end of G.

What I Claim as my improvement and desire to secure by Letters Patent is` The application of .the furnishing roll and the gear wheel on the end of the same, also the wheel on the mandrel to work into the furnishing roll wheel, and the color box,

and the position of theV cleaning `doctorl shear and doctor and the-pieces of iron for holding the color box and furnishing roll in its proper position at each end of the box; all in the manner above set forth.
