COME AND 00MB CLEANER COMBINED. APPLICATION rum) we. 19, 1905.
UNITED sTATEs PATIENT CFFICE.
CLARENCE W. TAYLOR, CF OAK PARK, ILLINOIS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
LPatented May 15,1906.
Application filed August 19,1905. Serial No. Z74,94=8.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE W. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oak Park, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Comb and Comb- Cleaner Combined, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in combs and combcleaners combined, and has for its object, first, to provide a comb and comb-cleaner combined which shall be simple in construction, comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, and sanitary in use, and, second, to produce an article of the class adapted to be Washed or cleansed without removing the cleaner from the comb.
With these and other objects in view my invention consists of the novel form and the means for removably securing the cleaner to the comb and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more specifically described, illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of my comb and comb-cleaner combined, showing the cleaner in normal position and showing the side of the comb on which the main portion of the cleaner is mounted. Fig. 2 is a view of the comb and cleaner,-showing the side opposite from the one on which the main portion of the cleaner is mounted, but with the cleaner in a position intermediate the upper and lower ends of the teeth of the comb. 3 is a view of the cleaner as it comes from the die. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the cleaner formed to be mounted on the comb. Fig. 5 is a section on line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, 6 denotes the comb, which is provided with depressions or recesses 7 7 near the ends of the comb.
The cleaner may be made of any suitable material. Aluminium with an alloy will give good results.
For sanitary reasons, preferably, the cleaner is small and the body portion embraces only one side of the comb. It may be washed or cleaned without being entirely disengaged from the comb.
In a comb of any suitable material I provide depressions in at least one surface of the comb near its ends and form the ends of the cleaner suitably for spring-pressure against such surface and for removable engagement therewith.
In assembling the comb and cleaner, if the cleaner is first formed as in Fig. 4 it will be apparent the spring ends of the cleaner may be lifted a trifle and the cleaner pushed up the end teeth to its normal position.
In operation when it is desired to clean the comb the cleaner may be pushed downward with sulficient force to disengage the raised portions 11 11 from the depressions 7 7 to the ends of the comb-teeth and the accumulation removed.
I reserve the right to make such changes, variations, and modifications as come properly within the protection prayed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination with a comb having a depression in one surface near each end thereof, of a cleaner the major portion of its length embracing only one side of the comb and having projections disposed between the teeth of the comb, the end portions of said cleaner being suitably formed to bear only upon the opposite side of the comb and removably engage said depressions to secure the cleaner to the comb.
2. The combination with a comb having a depression near each end thereof, of a cleaner I formed for spring enga ement with said dethe major portion of its length embracing pressions to secure the c eaner to the comb. only one side of the comb and having projec- In testimony whereof I affix my signature tions disposed between the teeth of the comb in presence of two witnesses.
and having its end ortions adapted to pass CLARENCE W. TAYLOR. between the teeth 0 the comb near the ends Witnesses:
thereof and bear only upon the opposite side HENRY BIEDERMAN, of the comb and having its ends suitably ERNESTINE MoRsTADT.
