To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT O. DUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, Maryland, have invented an Improvement in Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to that part of the anchor in which the shank-head actuates, whereby I do away with the crown-bolt or axial pin and cause the crown and fiukes to rotate on the trunnion-shank head without the aid of a bolt or axial pin or any holding-in pin. I attain this new object by mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a plan of the shank A and shank-head with trunnions B. Fig. 2 is an elevation of same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the anchor on the line at m of Fig. 4. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 5 is an end View of the crown.
The drawings show the trunnions B on the shank-head fitting in the dovetailed recesses s of the central opening of the crown, on which trunnions the combined crown and flukes F rotate to an angle of about fortythree degrees each side of the shank A. Over each trunnion a filling-piece C is fitted into the dovetail recesses of the crown, rounded on the bottom to fit over the trunnions B and secured from coming out by swaging down a lip of metal 7 1', extending on the crown beyond the filling-pieces, and thus allowing free movement of the combined crown and fiukes F around the trunnions B on each side of the shank A. The trunnions B actuate on the rounded surfaces at the bottom of the dovetailed recesses s s in the crown. Filling-pieces C fit over the trunnion B and the lip of metal 1' on the anchorcrown is swaged down to hold the fillingpieces C in place. The anchor is assembled before the metal is swaged down over fillingpieces.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an anchor the combination of a shank provided with trunnions with a crown provided with central opening to receive said shank and dovetailed recesses on each side to receive said trunnions the metal of said crown surrounding said recesses extending beyond the same before the anchor is assembled, and filling-pieces fitting said recesses to 5 5 secure said trunnions, the filling-pieces held in place by swaging down said metal substantially as set forth.
