Description

HARVEY W. SABIN, OF CANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK.
BEDSTEAD.
Specication of Letters Patent No. 8,190, `dated July 1, 1851. p
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HARVEY W. SABIN, of
Canandaigua, State of New York, have n vented a new and useful Improvement in Bedstead Fastenings and Bottoms; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a. full and exact descrip-tion.
The nature of my invention consists in providing the means of holding a bedstead together and at the same time furnishing an elastic bottom.
To enable othersskilled'in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and use.
I construct a bedstead with posts and rails in the ordinary ways, but without either wood or iron screws to hold it together, as in Fig. l, which gives a top plan, and in Fig. 2, which gives a longitudinal section, in both of which the same letters indicate the same parts. Across each corner from the end to the side rails A A A A I place two pieces of iron B, B, having a round hole in each end, one end of which is inserted into the rails, or fastened on the top of them, by means ofa small iron pin or bolt D, and the other ends meet together about half way from the end and side rails, into the holes in which is dropped the end of an iron rod turned to a i right angle F. These rods (Gr G) are about half the length of the bedstead and meet in the center and are `fastened by screwing one mond shaped hollow iron (I) having a screw cut inone end toreceive the screw on the end of the rod. The other rod Lis fastened into the other end of the ring by a head on the end. of it, and by turning the ring I withthe hand or a small lever the rods are stretched toany degree of tension, and the knuckle joints, formed by the two pieces of iron (B1B) across the corners are acted upon so as to of them (H) into an oblong iron ringor da` draw the whole bedstead tight together and i hold it there. Across-these, from head; to foot are laid wooden slats of proper thickness and width, which are secured in their y pla-ce by "a small cord P fastened to the irons B B and passngonce around each sla-t, thus forming a durable andelastic bottom of the` What I claimas my invention anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
Theknuckle joints for holding the rails of the bedstead together'in combination with the rods G and L, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described-.said
rods being also employed` to support the` Witnesses: y LYMAN P. JUDsoN, WM. B. SABIN, BENJ.' F. GAGE.
