UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. FRANK M. KIRBEY, or Rose-imam, MISSOURI.
LINE AND REIN BUCKLE.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Zio @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK M. KIBBEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rosendale, in the county of Andrew and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lines and Rein Buckles ,1 and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention consists of a double buckle and a keeper connected by upper and lower rods.
The object of the device is to provide a means whereby the hold upon the lines or rein in driving or riding 'may be adjusted at any desired distance from the ends of the lines or rein until for any reason a longer or shorter hold may be desired, when a readjustment may be quickly made.
l accomplish my object by the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which4 Figure l is a perspective view showing a buckle with the lines therein and a keeper through which the lines are extended; and Fig. 2 is a top view of the device, showing the lines buckled therein, the tongues of the buckle being also shown by dotted lines in the position assumed while the buckle and keeper are being shoved forward or backward on the lines to buckle at other perforations.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the views.
A is the frame of a double buckle, and B is a vertical support serving as an axle upon which two tongues C C are carried and turn.
D is a keeper for the ends of lines or rein,
extendingI back of the buckle and keeper, the buckle-frame and said keeper being spaced apart and held rigidly by two horizontal rods H H. The buckle-frame is preferably bent oval, as shown but the precise form of said buckle and keeper is innnaterial. The frame of the buckle, the stationary axle, the keeper, and the two connecting-rods may be constructed from a piece of pliable rod or wire bent and soldered or otherwise fastened together at its connecting-points or of any suitable material.
J J are two lines, and K K a plurality of perforations punched therein with which tongues C C engage as the buckle and keeper are shoved backward or forward to increase or decrease the length of lines between the bit of the bridle and the point at which the driver or rider may desire to grasp suoli lines or the rein.
That I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a lines and rein buckle, the vframe of a double buckle the vertical stationary axle therein, the oppositely projected tongues carried by said axle, the keeper spaced from said buckle and the duplicate projected horizontal rods rigidly connecting said buckle and keeper, substantially as described and shown.
2. The combination in a buckle of a double frame, a central vertical axle therein the buckle-tongues on said axle, a rein and lines keeper and the horizontal rods connecting said keeper and buckle, substantially as shown and described.
ln testimony whereof aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK M. KIBBEY.
W'itnesses:
XV. A. GARDNER, T. B. HOWARD.
