Description

J." w. STEWART.
CLOTHES PIN. APPLICATION FILED AUG.16, 1905f Wi wows I v 6726M PATENTED MAR. 13, 1906.
' UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEroE JAMES W. sTEwART, or FRANKLIN, TEXA ful Improvements in Clothes-Pins, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to clothes ms of the type formed from a single plate 0 metal and presenting a line-receiving eye and oppo sitely-disposed clamps, and has for its objects to produce a simple inexpensive device of this character in which the line engaging clamps will be effectually reinforced and one wherein the reinforcing-loop is formed in one piece with the remainder, of the device.
With these and other objects in view the construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device embodying the invention, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring tothe drawings, it will be seen that the improvedpin comprises a central line-receiving portion or eye 1 and clamping members 2, disposed, respectively, at oppo-y site sides of said ortion 1, the clamps 2 being in longitudinal a mement and each comprising a (pair of spring side portions or jaws 3,
brace relatively by means of a reinforcing loop or coil 4, formed around and at the longitudinal center of the jaws.
The improved'pin is composed of a single length of wire bent intoshapeto form the central line-receiving coil 1, and apair of oppositely disposed and projected arms 5, at
the outer terminals of which the clamps 2 are Specification of Letters Patent; Application filed August 16,1905. Serial No.- 274,437-
CLOTHES-PIN.
Patented March 13, 1906;
formed by suitably bendin the wire into shape, it being noted that the reinforcing loops or coils 4 are formed integral with and merged into the respective arms 5.
In practice the pin is disposed on the line by threading the latter through the eye 1, after which the clamps 2 are engaged with and for securing articles upon the line in the usual manner. It is to be particularly noted that owing to the formation of the loops 4, which surround and embrace the 'aws .3 of the clamps the latter are effectual y braced and strengthened for obviating weakening and undue spreading of the jaws in practice. 3
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isinvention comprises the novel features of 1 A clothes-pin comprising a length of wire bent to form a central line-receiving coil, a pa1r of arms projected in opposite directions from the coil and line-engaging clamps formed at the outer ends of the-arms,- said clamps each comprising a pair of cooperating oops disposed in a common side portions or plane on a line extending transversely of the arm andformed by folding the wire back and forth upon itself, and reinforcing-loops extending wholly around the clamps to embrace the pairs of jaws adjacenttheir centers, the loops being formed as an integral part ofand by suitably bending the wire at the outer terminals of the arms.
. In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
