Description

PATENTED MAR. 13, 1906.
I fr J. M. STEWART. CONNECTION FOR HARROW DISKS.
APPLICATION FILED DEC. 26, 1905.
- vided with apertures 7, which UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
JONATHAN M. STEWART, OF CANTON,
OHIO, ASSIGNORTO THE BUCHER & GIBBS PLOW COMPANY, OF CANTON, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
CONNECTION FOR HARROW-DISKS- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 13, 1906.
Application filed December 26, 1905. Serial No. 293,398.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JONATHAN M. STEW- ART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Connections for Harrow-Disks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals of refer ence marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a number of disks properly located upon a gang-rod and illustrating one of the disks detached from its fastening. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of a series of disk-spacing thimbles, showing the same properly located upon a gang-rod and illustrating a number of disks properly secured. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the gang-rod thimble-head and one of the disk-blocks.
The present invention has relation to connection for harrow-disks; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the gang-rod, which is held in position with reference to the harrow in any convenient and well-known manner. Upon the rod is located any desired number of disk-spacing thimbles 2, which are formed of a length equal to the distance between the disks 3. The thimbles 2 are provided upon their ends with the integral heads 4, which heads are provided with the angled sockets may be of any desired iorm other than round. The sockets 5 are for the purpose of receiving the disk-blocks 6, which disk-blocks are formed angular in cross-section, and upon the disk-blocks are located the barrow-disks 3, which barrow-disks areproapertures are formed of a size and shape to correspond with the size and shape of the blocksin crosssection. The object and purpose of providsockets 5, which '-ing the blocks 6 andlocating them in the It will be understood be clamped between of the disks in unison. that the disks 3 are to the faces of the heads 4, as best illustrated in Fig. 2, and for the purpose of providing a means for properly clamping a series of disks upon the gang-rod 1 one or both ends of the gang-rod are screw-threaded and upon which screw-threaded portion is located the nut 8. For the purpose of providing a means for clamping the end disks the end block 9 is provided with the flange 10, which flange is for the purpose of taking the place of an adjacent thimble-head. The faces of the heads 4 are preferably formed concave and are so formed for the purpose of providing a means i for receiving the convexed faces of the disks 3 and at the same time provide a means for clamping the disks between the extreme edges of the heads 4, so that a greater leverage is produced by reason of the disks 3 being clamped a considerable distance from their axle-centers. By providing the movable blocks 6 the thimbles 2 are interchangeable, or, in other words, both ends of the thimbles are alike, so that no regard need be given as to the proper placing of any given thimblc between the disks.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A gang-rod having located thereon, a series of thimbles provided with socket-heads, a disk-block located in the sockets of the thimble-heads and a harrow-disk mounted upon the block and clamped between two adjacent thimble-heads, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
of thimbles mounted upon the gang-rod, said thimbles provided with heads, angled sockets formed in the heads, angled disk-blocks adapted to be located in the angled sockets of the thimble-heads, and harrowdisks mounted upon the angled blocks and the disks clamped between the thimble-heads, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. As an improved connection for harrow 2. The combination of a gang-rod, a series disks, thimbles provided with heads having I hereunto subscribed my name in the presence sgckets ind a disk-11210211: rerniovatiiy conngctf of tWo Witnesses. e to t e soc etea s an a arrowis adapted to be mounted upon the removable JONATHAN STEWART 5 block, substantiallv as and for the purpose Witnesses:
specified. J. M. FOGLE,
In testimony that I claim the above I have W. H. CAVNAH.
