iSAAO MASON. OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 31, 1905.
Application led September 9, 1904:. Serial No. 223,852.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ISAAC MASON, a citizen of the United States, and avresident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Table, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates particularly to improvements in card or similar game tables, the object being to provide a table of this character with a top having receptacles for conveniently holding cards, counters, and the like, the table also having a pedestal in which various articles may be stored.
I will describe a table embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a table embodying my invention. Fig. 2 isa plan thereof. Fig. 3 is a section on the line y y of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4f is a section on the line z z of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, l designates the pedestal of the table, and in the pedestal is a sliding drawer 3, in which cigars or the like may be placed. The table-top consists of two Semicircular sections 6 7 hinged together at their adjacent edges, and when the two sections are open a circular top is formed, and around each section and spaced therefrom is an upwardly-extended flange 8, between which and the central portion of the table comprising the sections 6 and 7 are partitions 9,
forming end walls of trays in which articles may be placed. Formed in the periphery of the central portion of each tray-section is a pocket lO for receiving cards and the like, and it will be noted that the opposite vertical walls of all these pockets at the outer ends are flared outward, so that a person may conveniently pass his thumb and finger into engagement with a pack of cards and withdraw the same. Inward of the iiaring portion the said walls are parallel and by engaging with a pack of cards will prevent their'twistingor turning one upon another, which would have a tendency to mar them. At the outer end of each pocket is a closure consisting of a metal plate 1l, mounted on a pivot 12, so as to swing upward. At the end opposite its pivotal point the plate is provided with a slot 13 for receiving a headed pin 14, extended from the periphery of the central portion of the tabletop. These closures will not only prevent outward accidental movement of Acards or the like that may be in the pockets, but will prevent the entrance of dirt or dust. A
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A table comprising a central portion having pockets opening outward through its periphery, the outer ends of the vertical walls of said pockets being iiared outward, the said two walls inward of the flared portions being parallel, closures for the pockets mounted to swing on the periphery of the top, and a rim surrounding the centralportion and spaced therefrom.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
