Description

No. 80,923. PATENTED AUG. ll, 1868. H. GROSSLBY. LUBRICATOR.

IMPROVEMENT IN LURIGATORS.
ilge Stigehnle nomi tu in lpse tetters rtert mit uniting gert ut tige same.
TO ALL WHOM I'I' MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, HENRY Cnossner, of the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a. new and improved Mode of Constructing Oil-Cups for Steam-Cylinders, 8m.; and I do hereby declare that the following 1s a. full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, und to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The' nature of my invention consists in constructing the upper valve of oil-cups, that are intended to be used against pressure, with a. top or cover, that haspussed through its centre a valve-stem, the valve being nt tlic lower end, and the upper end secured by e bolt, allowingr it to revolve freely within the cover. The valvesont is mnde of a metal that is Suiiiciently soft to receive the impression of the vulve. The screw of the cover answcrs the double purpose of securing the cover und compressing the valve. l
'lo enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to` describe its construction and operation.
I construct an oil-cup in the usual manner, with a. giobe-volve at the lower end, as shown in the accompanying drawings, marked A A. I combine the upper valve with the cover, producing better results, and of a.
lees expense than those heretofore devised and used. The cover and hund-wheel B B has passed through its centre the valve-stom C, which is fitted so as to revolve. At the lower end is the vulvcAD, which shoulders against the inside of the cover B B. rIhe top of the stem is provided with u. bolt, E, with a. head large. enough to keep it in its place and allow it to revolve.
'.lhe mouth ot' the cup is contracted, so as to allow a, sucient thickness of metal, as shown at F F, for the `groove Cr, which contains an alloy of softer metal, and forms the valve-seat. The cover B B is provided with the usual screw, marked 1I, which answers the double purpose of securing thc top and compressing the valve, while. the valve being movable, it does not grind or euh the seat, but simply compresses it.r
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The oil-cup, having its upper valve combined with the cover, and the cover applied to the cup, all suhstan- {ially as herein shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
` HENRY CROSSLEY.
