Description

PATENTED DBO; 12, 1905.
J. J. YEATES. NON-REPILLAB'LB BOTTLE.
APPLICATION .IILBD MAR. 30, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIOE.
JESSE J. YEATES, OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES MILTON SMITH, OF MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 30, 1905. Serial No. 252,936.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEssE J. YEATES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montgomery, in the county of Montgomery and State of Alabama, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles of the type employing a ball-valve for closing the aperture in the throat of the bottle, and has for its object to provide a device which shall be simple and reliable in operation and economical to manufacture.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood, I have illustrated the same in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a view in sectional elevation of a bottle constructed according to my invention.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates the bottle proper, which is provided with a neck 2, the throat 3 of which is conical in outline that is to say, in the normal position of the bottle the throat diverges outwardly from the bottom to the top of the neck, The neck 2 is continued into achamber 4, in the top 5 of which is secured a tube 6, which projects a suitable distance above the top 5 and within the chamber 4, as shown. Said tube has an open outer end 7 for receiving the ordinary cork and a closed lower end 8, located within the chamber 4. Near its bottom end the tube 6 is provided on two opposite sides with apertures 9. Said tube is also provided around its sides adjacent to the top 5 with openings 10.
11 indicates a ball-valve which is adapted to fit snu ly within the throat 3 of the neck, so as to close said throat and prevent liquid being poured into the bottle 1.
In operation and before the ball-valve 11 I is inserted the bottle'l is filled with the deof the tube 6 and ,the wall of the chamber 4 is suificient to allow the ball-valve 11 to pass between them, so that when it is desired to pour out the contents of the bottle when the latter is turned up the said ball-valve will roll down into the chamber 4 and remain there, while the liquid flows out through the openings 9 or 10. When the bottle is placed in an u right position, the ball-valve -Will again fa 1 into the throat 3 and close the same. The openings 10 permit all the fluid to be drained from the bottle. In practice the neck 2 is of a length sufficient to prevent the ball-valve from being displaced by shaking the bottlesay, about three times as long as the diameter of the ball. 11. The bottom 8 of the tube prevents the removal of the ball 11, which cannot be taken out of the chamber 4 Without breaking the neck 2.
All the parts of the device are constructed of lass.
aving thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A non refillable bottle, comprising a bottle proper provided with a neck havingan inclined or conoidal throat, a chamber eX- tending above said neck and forming a continuation thereof, a tube located in the top wall of said chamber and projecting within the latter, said tube being provided at its bottom with an aperture, and a ball-valve adapted to seat in the throat of said bottle and of a size to pass through said aperture.
2. A non refillable bottle comprising a bottle proper having a neck provided with an inclined or conoidal throat, a chamber located above said neck formed as a continuation thereof, a tube located in the top wall of said chamber and projecting within the latter, said tube having an open upper end and a closed lower end and provided within the chamber adjacent to the top Wall thereof with an opening and at its lower end portion With a circular aperture, and a ball-valve adapted to seat in the throat ofsaid neck and of a diameter to pass through said aperture.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JESSE J. YEATES.
