@GAR-HOLDER.
elle flnbnle nicht tu in ilgtst ittn's ntent'unt mating nett if tige sont;
TO ALL WHOM I T MAY i Be it known that I, MARTIN'V. YOUNG, oi`.the eity, county, n mlStateol' New York, have invented, certain new and useful Improvements in Gigar-Holders; anti Ldo hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, `andexact.description thereof, reference being hail to the accou i pnnying drawings, anti to the letters of reference inarked thereon. l I
The ohject of my invention is to produce Va cheep and ciliective cignr-holler, which shall condense the nicotine, volatile oil, and other substancesy vuporized by the combustion of the tobacco, vwhich shall be nent and elegant innppeorance, which will not be destroyed by the heet of the burning" cigar, and in which the said vapori'zefi products of `combustion will not'be vliable toheooine condensed inthe pointed end of the cigar by its becoming'moist, ns in ordinary cigar-holders.
It consists of a cylindrical or other shaped hollow er chznnberetl hotly, to which nmouth-pieee eommuni-- eating with its interior is attached, and in which is secured or inserted apin orpointed wire', and a, hollow, wedgeshoped tube, for piercing the cigar, holding it in position., oncl providing n. channel of communication from the interior of the cigar to the mouth of the smoker, substantially Ans hereinafter set forth. v Also, in the peculiar i'orh'intionl of'soid wedge-shaped tube, whereby thc filling of the cign'r is prerentetl from closing up oggxnst theorifieespir sci dutube, and stopping up `thep c s s n fe for the 'sciolte through said tube.
In the accompanying drawin-gs- Y i Figure 1 is a top view of my improved cigar-holder. Figure 2 is aside elevation of` the same. i. v Figure 3 is a. vertical longitudinal section of the saine through its exis.
Figure 4 is an enti view of the same. vFigure 5 is n vertical cross-section of the saine, showing the pnrtsto the right of the line x GJ, iig. 2.
Figure 6 is n. vertical longitudinal section of n. cignrholtlor through its axis, showing certain modifications of my invention. i l v Ais' a hollow hotly, ofthe form of u very slightly tapered frustinn of n'cone, to which the month-piece 'B is attached at one enti, `the joint being rendered strong, durable, nntlciosc, by u vmetallic covering, C, which ismade oi' suitable forni to fit the ports which it covers, nml which vmary be ornzrrnentetl or engmveilV to suit the taste of the maker. Insitlcoi' the part a oi' the .covering C, a hollow-Wooden lining` is fitted, boring on its inner surface a screw-thread, into which the piece D is screwed. '.A washer or ring, E, whiclris inscrtedl between i, the mouth-piece B ond the rear end o f the covering C, in o. seat motie to receive it, completes the joint.v The hollow tapered tubeA is fitted snugly anni tightly in the foi-wurd cnil of the metnllic covering onferrulc Cf Into the side oi the tube A, n pointed st-utl or pin, F, is set, :intl immediately in `front of said pin the wedgeshaped piercing-tube G is inserted. This tubeG'is merle, for convenience'in inserting it in the hotly A, round at its lower-end. Its upper cnil consists of n sharp, knife-like edge, which is seto parallel to. the axis o'i` .the holder, the whole tube resembling in form zt' short cylinder :intl n wedge joined nt their4 bases. In the triangular or pointed silles of this wetlgelshuped portion'ure openinigs, which communicate', through the chnnn'el c in the tube Gr, with the chamber d in the tuben. 'lfiie channel e through thc month-piece B connects the said chamber tl with the mouth of thc smoker. i i i In using this cignr-holder, the cigar is so placed upon the pin F and the tube G, thntits n-xis is 4parallel with the axis of 'thc Giger-holder, anti then pressed down until itlies closely against the tube A, thcpin F entering the cigar ncnr. the pointed enti, and the tube G entering it o, short distance forward of the said pointedenti. flhc said tube Genti pin E act in conjunction lto pnljvent the cigar .from swinging aronntl or becoming otherwis'e'tlisplaced, and thus secure it firmly in positionf4 -ilroni the peculiar wedge-shaped form -of the tube G, it neatlyr cuts through the-wrapper, and on entering the filling, pushes it apart so as toform n slight opcning both in front and rear of the said tube-G,Ihn l thus prevents the filling from being crowded down against the 4openings Zr I1, and stopping, the passage of the sciolte.' Before .adjusting the cigar, the wrapper should bc products of condensati I emptied out.
slightly moistened to 'prevent it from breaking or splitting beyond the edge of the tube G, sonsfto admit air and impede the draught. The chamber d acts as a. cooling and condensing-chambermte collect and bold the mouth.l l. Y.
In tbe modification of the bolder shown in fig. y6, the piece Dis extendedinward in the form of a small tube, which more eieotually prevents any accumulation of liquid products of combustionand condensation, or other moisture which may accumulate in the chamber d, from passing tothe vsmokers mouth, and a plug,f, is screwed into the outer end of the tube A, by removing whicl1,tl1e said accumulations or" moisture may be In cigar-holders heretofore constructed, having u piercing-tube for entering the cigar, the said tube has been round or conical, and the iilling of the cigar, instead of being spread-out uwayfromthe openings in the said tube, has been pressed firmly against the said openings, thereby impeding or entirely stopping the draught. This objection is entirely removed in myimproved'cigar-holder, and on efficient :'action is secured in all cases in which the cigar is properly constructed. l
Ila-ving thus fully deseribed my. invention, I clai1n l. The wedge-shaped pieroing-tubeG, applied to a cigar-holder, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 2. The combination, with the piercing-tube Gand tube A, ofthe pointed stud or pin F substantially as set fort-l1.
