RIFLE CLEANER.

UNTTnn STATES Patented June 27, 1905.
PATE T Urrrca.
RIFLE-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 793,469, dated. June 27, 1905.
Application filed February 11, 190A. Serial No. 193. 57.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUsTAv ADOLF SACHS, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing in Eugene, county of Lane, and State of Oregon, haveinvcnted certain new and usefulImprovements in Rifle -.(Jleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to rifle-cleaners which are intended to facilitate the cleaning of rifles of the lead and dirt which gather in the grooves of the rifles, and has for its object to provide a rifle-cleaner simple in construction and efiicient in operation.
For this purpose the invention consists of certain novel features, which will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of my improved rifle-cleaner. Fig. 2 shows the application of the same to a gun-barrel for cleaning the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of the rifleclcaner stock in the course of manufacture previously to bending over the sharpened point of the same, and Fig. 4c is a detail view of the bent-up point of my improved riflecleaner.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents my improved rifle-cleaner, which consists of a main part (4, provided at one end with a handle or loop-shaped part b. The other end of the main part a is hammered flat, so as to form a straight sharp edge which is somewhat pointed or beveled, as shown in Fig. 3. The
so-formed end f of the rifle-cleaner is then turned backward on itself so as to form a bent-up or hook-shaped part (Z, as shown most clearly in Figs. 1 and 4. This bent-over part (Z has to a certain extent a spring action and is adapted to engage the grooves D of a gun or rifle barrel D with its sharp flat edge f, so as to clean out all dirt, lead, and other adhering foreign parts and on being pulled out of the groove to quickly and efliciently clean the same.
In the cleaning of barrels of rifles or guns heretofore it has been found that the brushes used for this purpose did not accomplish the purpose for which they were intended inasmuch as they were not strong enough to remove the lead and hardened dirt from the grooves of the gun. My improved rifle cleaner fully answers this object, facilitates the cleaningof guns and rifles, is itself easily cleaned, and is simple of construction. Moreover, it may be manufactured at a low cost.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A rifle-cleaner, comprising a resilient rod having a flattened tapering end portion intermediately bent back thereon and provided with a beveled scraping edge.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GUSTAV ADOLF SACHS.
