PASTE-JAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 798,327, dated June 2'?, 1905.
Application iilefl September 14, 1904. Serial No. 224,888.
Be it lcnown that we, rlosuru E. Swovnn and .Ilicoe Granen, citizens of the United States., residing' at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Paste-Jars, of which the following' is a specification.
Our invention relates to a new and useful improvement in paste-jars.
'llie object of the invention is to provide simple means for etlicicntly covering' the water-well` and thus preventing' spilling' of the water from the said well when the jar is overturned.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described that will be strong', durable, and etlicient and one in which the several parts will not be liable to g'et out of working' order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction and operation, a preferable embodiment of which is described in the specilication and illustrated in the drawings.` whereinY Figure I is a transverse vertical sectional view, and Fig'. 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken ou the line ,1' n' of Fig'. 1.
In the drawings the numeral I designates the liai', which may be formed of g'lass or any other suitable composition. Disposed cen trally of the jar is a suitable receptacle or well 2, which is held in position h v a layer of plasler-i'if-paris EE, dispieisei'l in the bottom of the jar. ,l`he receptacle? terminates short of the top of the jar for the purpose hereinafter described. The jar formed at its upper end with the usual external screw-threai'ls 4, which are adapted to receive the crimped llange of the metal cover (S. Disposed beneath the cover is the usual packing-disli'. The cover and disk are formed with a central circular opening' S, throug'h which projects the brush il. 'lihe brush is provided with a shouldered projection Il), which is abutted upon its under side by the flexible washer l1, which rests upon the upper edg'e of the receptacle 2 and owing' to its resilient nature is held securely in position on the said receptacle bythe pressure brought to bear upon its upper surface when the cover (3 is screwed down. It is readily apparent that by the above-described construction tlie receptacle 2, which is used as a waterwell, is securely sealed by the washer l1 and the water is prevented from spilling' out of said receptacle onto the paste, which is disposed within the jar about the said receptacle. Of course it is to be understood that the receptacle 2 is of such height as to lirnily impinge upon the under surface of the washer when the cover 11 is screwed down.
To use the brush, it is simply necessariY to unscrew the cover 6, which will carry with it the packing-disk and slide the same up and over the handle of the brush. rlhe brush may now be removed 'from the well and inserted in the paste and the same applied as desired. It is to be observed that the washer 1l besides forming' the cover for the receptacle 2 acts as a g'uard `for preventing' soiling' of the lingers and also provides a suitable rest for the brush when the saine is laid upon a horizontal surface and serves to hold the moistened end thereof out of contact with the said surface.
I'laving' now fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device of the character described, a jar having' a smooth and continuous inner surface, a separately-formed water-receptacle, a layer of fastening' material completely covering' the bottom of the jar about the water-receptaele and rig'idly holding' the same in place, a Ilexihle washer for supporting' a brush normally resting' on the water-receptaele, and a cover 'for the jar having' a central opening' larg'er than the handle of the brush and adapted to hold the washer upon the receptacle.
