Description

PATENTED JUNE 30, 1868. L. A. DODGE.
LUBRIGATOR FOR NAIL MACHINES.-
a I E: J

Letters Patent No. 79,326, dated June 30, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN. LU'BRIGATOR FOR NAIL-MAGHINES.
it: 5111:3111: which to in time grit era fittest inn mating 1nd at it: same.
1'0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I
Be it known that I, LUCIUS AL DODGE, of Keesoville, in the county of Essex, and State of New-York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lubricating-Devices; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and uscthc same,
reference being had to the accompanying drawing, formin 'part of this specification, in which- B v The drawing represents a partial section of the stock to which the said roller is aflixed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to improvements in means for' lubricating the forging-rollers of nail-machines, such as named in the machines patentedto Daniel Dodge, August 30, 1859, and J une 8, 1856, wherein a forgingroller. is arranged, to move rapidly around an axial support, and, when in contact with theiron to be wrought, is also caused to rotate rapidly on its own axis, the centrifugal action thereby induced greatly tending to throw oil any oil or lubricant which may from time to time be applied to it.
' My invention consists iriproviding a chaniber within the stock,-to which the forgingeroller is secured, and on'yghich itis carried around the aboveaxle,provided-with openings forsupplyingit withmil'provided also with passages communicating with the axis o f'the' said forging-rollenand with packing of absorbent material, and set-screws for compressing the said packing so as to regulate the flow of the oil, as will be more fully described on reference to the accompanying drawings.
A represents the stock, and B the roller, of which 6 6 is the axle. v
The stock A is arranged, in the before-mentioned nail-forging machine, in a rotary disk,.around the axis of; which it revolves with'great rapidity, causing the pulley B to strike the metal to be forged at each revolution of thestock around the said axis. t x
0 represents a chamber, provided in the said stoekby boring, or other suitable means, and pluggin up the ends of the same as showiriu dotted lines. V
' C and 0' represent branches of the said chamber, ertendin g from the main portion toward the vicinity of,
the axle of the-roller B, and which may be provided with wicking of absorbent material.
3 dreprese'nt small passages, which complete the channel from the chamber 0 to the axle, or to the wheel near the axle. a v r q As the centrifugal action of the said stock would cause an undue flew of oil through the said wicking to: the axle, I have provided the sot-screws a o, to be forced against the said wicking, so as to compress it and limit the passage at: the oil. v i
The said stock maybe provided with a passage, as shown at e, for pouring the oil into the chamber, and which may be plugged up after the chamber is filled. i
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The stock A, provided with the chamber 0,.thc wick-chambers 0' and O, passages d d, and the set-screws ma, substantially as and for the purpose descr ibe d..
The above specification (if my invention signedby mc, th'is 'day of 1868.
