IMPROVEMENT IN HORSE-SHOE-GALK SHARPENERS.

'.10 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, RICHARD CnocKEn, of Marshalltown, in the county of Marshall, in the Stato of Iowa, haveinvented n. new andusef'ul Instrument or Machine for' Shavingor Sharpening the Calks' upon the Shoes of Horses,-Mules, and-Cattle, while the shoe remains fastened or nailed to the hoof of the animal; and I do vhereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andcxplioit description of the construction and opcrationot `the same, reference being had `to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Letter A is a side view of the instrument.

Operation.
The instruinenj; iS operated in the following manner: Moving the lever B up and. down gives an exactly opposite or downmnd-upf motion to thc chisel or knife, bywhich a thin shaving is cut from the calk of the shoe, the shoe at the time resting upon the block b, and the side of the calk not being sharpcned'presscd against the surface` c.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure. by Letters Patent, is-` l Y The device consisting of the lever B, provided with the cutting-edge a, the'lever, D provided with the abutment c and face b, said lever B, with cutting-edge a, lever D, with abutment c and face b, being scombined and operating as described, and for the `purpose set forth.
