PATENTED JUNE 20, 1905.
H. s. ARNOLD. NON-REPILLABLE BOTTLE.
APPLICATION FILED 00124, 1904.
UNTTED STATES Patented J'une 20, 1905.
PATENT @EETCE.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,578, dated June 20, 1905'.
Application filed October 24, 1904. Serial No. 229,885.
T0 (1, (071.0770 it nuty concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY S. ARNOLD, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Non-Refillable Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of non-refillable bottles and to provide a simple, inexpensive, and efficient one which will not permit a bottle to be again refilled when it is supplied with this device.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a non-refillable bottle constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the valve and its supporting-frame detached. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the bottleneck.
Like letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
Fig. 1 designates the neck of a bottle; but the invention is applicable to various other receptacles having necks similar to bottles and shows the resilient locking device in place.
Fig. 2 shows the resilient locking device, which is a skeleton frame made of a metal spring about one-eighth inch in diameter, to which are fastened two pieces of thin metal, as b a, each of which fills half the neck. 0 is a metal band about one-sixteenth inch thick and one-fourth inch wide, which is also fastened to the spring and fits securely around the inside of the neck and serves as a rest for the valve (Z, which is hinged to it. The resilient locking device is pushed into the neck 'of the bottle until the lugs g g slip into the sockets f f, which hold the locking device in place. it is a groove in which the locking device lies. This also shows the division Z), which is to prevent anything being pushed down to open the valve (Z. The valve (Z is adapted to close by gravity, and in order that it may not attain a position to prevent a closing an angular stop 1" is secured to the ring or valve-seat a, and this stop is of such size as to prevent the valve (Z from passing beyond its center.
The skeleton frame cis formed of a single piece of wire having its upper portion bent back upon itself and depending a short distance in a parallel plane and terminates in an outwardly extending lug or projection g. The opposite portion of the frame is bent to form a second lug g.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States,
1. In combination with the neck of a bottle, having sockets therein, aframe provided with lugs engaging said sockets, guards arranged one above the other and carried by the frame, and a valve for the neck carried by the frame.
2. In combination with the neck of a bottle having sockets therein, an expansible frame provided with lugs engaging said sockets, and a valve for the neck carried by the frame.
3. In combination with the neck of a bottle having sockets therein and channels leading from the free ends of the sockets, an expansible frame having lugs adapted to ride in said channels and engage the sockets and a valve for the neck carried by the frame.
4:. In combination with the neck of a bottle having sockets therein, a skeleton frame fitting within the neck and having lugs near one end engaging the sockets, a valve-seat carried by the opposite end of the frame and a valve for the seat, adapted to close by gravity.
5. In combination with the neck of the bottle having sockets therein, a skeleton frame fitting within the neck and having lugs near one end engaging the sockets, a valve-seat carried by the opposite end of the frame, and a valve for the seat, adapted to close by gravity, and means for limiting the opening of the valve. 7
6. In combination with the neck of the hottie having sockets therein, a Skeleton frame fitting Within the neck and having lugs near one end engaging the sockets, a valve-seat carried by the opposite end of the frame, a valve for the seat, adapted to close by gravity, and a stop carried by the valve-seat for limiting the opening of the valve.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HARRY S. ARNOLD.
