- APPLICATION FILED JAN. 16, 1904.

PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST O. BAUER, OE VALATIE, NEW YORK.
S'ILERlLlZER FOR BARBERS USE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 791,862, dated June 6, 1905.
Application tiled January 16, 1904. Serial No. 189,290.
To all whom it may concern.: Y l
Be it known that I, ERNEST O. BAUER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Valatie, in the county of Columbia and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sterilizers for Barbers Use, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates toanapparatus operated by any suitable source of heat and adapted for use for heating Water for barbers, sterilizing razors, heating curling-irons, &c.; and it consists in the novel combinations of parts hereinafter described, and set forth in the claim.
The objects and advantages of these improvements will be clearly understood by this description when taken in connection with the drawings, in one sheet, and forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a plan of the apparatus. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken at line 1 in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken at line 2 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a section taken at line 3 in Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts throughout theseveral views.
In the drawings, Ais the heater, madewith any suitable form and dimensions found to be adapted for several general lpurposes for use by barbers. This vessel A is preferably made of sheet metal coated with nickel or with enamel produced from mineral substances for preventing corroding of surfaces and for cleanliness of surfaces. The upper end of this heater A is provided with opening A for receiving a Water vessel for containing water to be kept heated. The top opening A of this heater is provided with annular horizontal flange a and annular vertical flange a', suitably connected with the upper end of wall a2, and serves as a guard for holding handles of razors off from contact with the wall of the heater when the blades of the same are suspended in the water-heating vessel E. Below said ange a are provided one or more series of perforations a3 for passage of the products of combustion from the source of heat which may be used in this apparatus, and in the llower portion of wall a2 of this heater is provided a series of perforations for admission of airfor support of combustion of thecornbustiblev material which may be employed asa source of heat.
A3 is a suitable door having handle a5 provided in the lower part of the vwall of this heater A for ready access to the lower portion a of the chamber of the same for introducing a spirit-lamp B or other lamp or for lighting a gas-burner, as may be required, for producing heat. I at present prefer to employ a spirit-lamp, as shown, for burning Wood-alcohol, which liquid fuel is preferred because the combustion of that fluid is unattended by smoke and is comparatively odorless and inoffensive C is a perforation provided in Wall a2 at any suitable point therein opposite the lower portion of the chamber containing the lamp B and at a pointY in said Wall which is relatively above the wick tube or tubes I) for introduction of a curling -iron C, required to be heated. Opposite from said perforation C and suitably supported from opposite wall portion of heater A is a bracket C2 for rsup port of the outer end @of said instrument. I at present prefer to provide said bracket C2 with'suitable loop o for receiving the outer ends c of the curling-iron for preventing the body portion of the same being lifted upward from said bracket by preponderance of 'weight of its outside handle or from other causes.
This heater A is also provided on its outer side of wall a2 at a place about midway between its top and bottom with asocket from bracket D securely xed on said wall, preferably by rivets, and adapted to receive from its lower end d. the tongue d2 of the removable ring-form handle D', by which this apparatus may be lifted and carried. By this provision of the detachable handle D and socket-form bracket D the-handle may bev 'readily removed from heater A while the apparatus is in place on a table or other support, and thereby be preserved cool and ready to be used and out of the way as a projection. This handle may be readily placed in said socketform bracket for service as a lifting device for carrying the apparatus.
sel.
The lamp B is preferably provided with a square-formbase-.piece B, `while the bottom of the heater is provided with. Ways b for guiding the lamp when being introduced or removed and for holding the same secure from shilfting or tipping and yet be readily removab e.
E is Water-heating vessel, preferably cylindrical and made of sheet metal coated with suitable material for cleanliness and with a diameter smaller than that of the heater A,v
so as to nicely tit opening Al of the same, and its bottom E' is preferably concave from its lower side. An annular 'bead e, projected outwardly from the wall e of this vessel E, seats down on the annular ange. a o-fupper end of theheater A. A cover E2 isprovided andhinged on the upper end of'vessel E with its annular flange ezclosing all around onthe upper end of walls e of the vessel, so that but little or any vapor may escape from saidves- Betweenthe upper portion of .the wall a of heater A and the 4wall e of `vessel E is annular :Hu-e E3, extending u-pwardfrom the concave bottom E of this latterlvessel when in place, in which Hue the products of combustion nuovev and circulatein contact-withzthe Walle of the said vessel.
This apparatus'is: adapted for use ofbarbers for quickly heating and keepingl heated water for sterilizing the blades of razorsand at the Sametime holding curling-irons suitably between the flame of the lamp and the bottom tion.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
A sterilizer comprising an outer casing formed with openings near the top and bottorn, a flange-extending inwardly from the casing,- a. heating vessel withinthe casing and supported bythe Hangs,` the vessel extending a razor or like, the upperfedge of the casing forming alguide for the handle'of said razor, a heating medium in the casing below thevessel, a support within the casingbelow the vessel,:and in alinernenftiwith an-opening in the casing, the support and opening forming a holder for anar-ticle between the heating medium and the bottom of the vessel, substantially as described.
