Description

" UNITED 1 STATES Patented May 16, 1905.
PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIs NEUBEEGEE AND EDWARD CLEAEY, on EEIDGEPOET,
f CONNECTICUT.
CLASP.
srEcIFIcAtrIoN forming part ef Letters Patent No. 790,261, daten May 16, 1905.
Application filed January 2, 1904. Serial No. 187,483.
To Ir/ZL whom t 7er/ty con/cern:
Be it known that we, LOUIs NEUBERGER and -EDWARD CLEARY, citizens ofthe United States,
Our invention relates toI new and useful im provements in clasps such as are commonly employed on gentlemens hose-supporters.
It is the object of the inventionto improve upon clasps of this kind by simplifying, cheapching, and generally improving the construction, and finally to produce a claspof but two parts, each of which can readily be struck up and finished from sheet metal with compara'- tively few operations in avery simple manner.
With the above objects in view our invention resides and consists in the novel construction and formation of parts shown upon the accompanying sheet of drawings, forming a part ofthis specification, upon which similar characters of `reference denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several figures, and of which- Figure l shows a perspective view of a hosesupporter'complete, the same being provided with our improved clasp disconnected. Fig. 2 shows a front View of our improved clasp, the two parts beingconnected together. Fig. 3 shows a cross-sectional view on lines 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 showsarear view of thelarger or button member of our clasp, and, Fig.` 5 shows an edge view of the part shown in Fig. 4.
Referring in detail to the characters of reference marked upon the drawings, A represents the web for encircling the leg and to 'the opposite ends of which are attached the respective members of our improved clasps.
B represents the button member ofthe clasp, and E the hook member. The button member B is provided with slots Gand D, the former for the engagement of the web A and the latter for the attachment of a short elastic web F, which is provided with a clamp Gr for engaging the hose. This member B is provided with a button or head H, which is hook member E ofthe clasp is secured to the free end of the web and is provided witha recess L to receive the button and has an adjoining reduced socket M, into which the Shanks of the button are drawn. The hook is further provided with a tongue N, which in practice normally engages the head of the button in a way to aiford a friction to p'revent the disengagement of the hook from the button and likewise to protect the button and prevent its engagement with adjoining gar-V ments.
It will be obvious, of course, that when the parts are attached this button is rst inserted through the enlarged opening L. The hook is there drawn backward in a way to slide the narrow edges of the hook under the sides of the button and against the end of shank K. n
In this position the hook is afforded a slight pivotal movement upon the button to better allow the parts to conform to the limb of the wearer, as is obviously necessary.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a clasp ofthe kind described, the combination of a hook member bearing a central tongue, a button member provided with slots for the attachment of two webs and with a button stamped up integral therewith having narrow shanks fore and aft, one shank forming a pivot for the hook and the other a strengthening-brace for the button, said tongue bearing .on the head of said button when said members are engaged.
2. In a clasp of the kind described, thecombination with a sheet-metal button member having slots for the attachment of two webs and provided with a button stamped up from said member witha crescent-shaped orifice on each side to form ashank at opposite sides of the button, of a hook havingacentral tongue to engage the head of the button, one of the shanks of the button member forming a pivot for the hook member and on which the latter turns, and the other shank formin1 a brace for the button in line with the strain exerted by the hook member when engaged with the button member.
3. In a clasp of the kind described, the combination With a sheet-metal button member having means for the attachment of two Webs and provided With a button stamped up from said member with a crescent-shaped orce on each side to form a shank at opposite sides o1 the button making the latter integral with the plate, of a hook member having a central flexible tongue t o engage the head of the button, one of the Shanks of the button member forming a pivot for the hook member and on which the latter turns.l and the other shank forming a brace for the button in line with the strain exerted by the hook member when engaged with the button member.
Signed at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairiield and State of Connecticut, this 21st day of December, A. D. 1903.
