, To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY F REDERIOK BROWN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Eyeglass and Eyeglass-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to the eyeglasses employed by jewelers, watchmakers, and other operators, and has for its object to improve the construction and at the same time provide an attachment whereby the eyeglass may be supported from the mouth instead of holding the same by the muscles surrounding the eye.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simply-constructed means whereby the glass-holding members may be adjusted to the person wearing the same.

With these and other objects in View, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in cer tain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part'of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a view of the head of a figure of a man with the improved device in position thereon.' Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of the improved instrument. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the mouth-bar detached.

In the improved device is embraced a barrel or casing 10 for the magnifying-glass 9, said barrel being provided with a threaded socket 11 on one side thereof to receive the correspondingly-threaded end 12 of a bar 13, the latter being provided with a longitudinal slot 14:. Slidably disposed in the slot 14:, as by a flat stud 15, is a bar 16, which the operator holds in the mouth, as shown in Fig. 1. The bar 16 is provided with shoulders 17,

adapted to bear against the standard 13 on one side, said bar being secured in position for longitudinal adjustment upon the standard by a clamp-screw 18, bearing upon the opposite side of the standard.

By this simple attachment the eyeglass may be easily. held in suitable position relative to the eye without fatigue to the muscles surrounding the latter and may be readily adjusted to suit various sizes and forms of face.

The members 13 and 16 may be of any suitable material metal, hard rubber, or the likeand may be of any required size and of suitable strength.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. An eyeglass-holder comprising a lenssupporting frame, a vertical standard carried by the frame and provided with a longitudinal slot, a vertically-adjustable mouthpiece having a terminal stud adapted to engage the walls of said slot and defining oppositely-disposed shoulders for engagement with the adjacent face of the standard, and means for clamping said mouthpiece in adjusted position.

2. An eyeglass-holder comprising a lenssupporting frame, a vertical standard detachably secured thereto and provided with a longitudinal slot, a vertically-adjustable mouthpiece provided with a terminal stud adapted to engage the walls of said slot, and means for clamping said mouthpiece in adjusted position.

3. An eyeglass-holder comprising a lenssupporting frame provided with a threaded socket, a vertical standard having one end thereof correspondingly threaded for engagement with said socket and its opposite end provided with a longitudinal slot, a mouthpiece having a terminal stud adapted to engage the walls of said slot, and a clampingscrew engaging said stud for retaining the mouthpiece in adjusted position.
