Beit known that L'ENccH-THOMAS', of Craigsville, county of Augusta, State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cotton'and HayPresses; and. I do hereby declare that the followingv is a, full and exact descriptionthereof, reference being had to thelaccompanying drawings, and to the "letters of reference marked thereon. e
The nature of'my invention consists mainly in double-acting togglellevers with thefollowcr f a press for oil, tobacco, cotton, hay, 8vo., in combination withdouhle-acting sectors and eccentric-wheels, whereby thepower of the levers is brought to bear alternately upon 'the follower.' i

The operation is as follows r The shaft K, hy means of its connections with the drivingshaft M, as above described, is made to -revolve in the direction ot' the arrow, so as to cause theeccentric-wheels L L to actilpon the sectors-J Tand Jl J1 thereby producingareciprocating motion of the sliding frame I,- and producing an alternate motion of the ltop fgle-levers.
When tho eccentrics are inl the position represented in igs. 1 and 2, they press upon the sectorsJ J, and bear the frame I inwards, pressing thc levers E and E', toproduce thereby an upward motion of the'lfollower C, and bringing the levers F and Finto va position for pressing.
The sectors'J J are released from 'the e'ccentrics while the latter press upon the vsectors JJ, and drop linfo the position hcy assume in figs. 1 and 2. When the prcssing'parts of the eccent-rics reach the sectorsJ J,
which are in their lower position, into whichthey had come by their vown weight, the sectors J J have been released, und the rocking-shaft II, toA which they are connected, is turned partly aroundby thc counter-weight X, so :1s to bring thein into the position they assume in figs. 1 and 2; and an outwardmmotion is given to the reciprocating f'ram'e I by the eccentrics bearing against thc sectors'J J', end bringing vthem into the position they assume in red lines in fig. 2. i l

The combination nml-arrangement of the double-acting toggle-levers E E and F F with tho'followerframe D and the reciprocating frame L s-ubstantially i`n the manner hereinv described, and for the purpose specified.
