Beit known that I, JOHN L. MCKAY. a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapo;

lis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,

such as will enable others skilled in. the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to cigar and cigarette holders, and has for its objectv to improve the same by the provision therefor of a flexible cigar or cigarette` holding tip, all as will be hereinafter more fully described.

The numeral 1 indicates a cigar, and the numeral 2 indicates a cigar-holder of ordinary construction, having the usual conical cavity 3 for the reception of the butt-end of the cigar. The numeral 4. indicates the body of the improved tip, the same being constructed of rubber or other material which is flexible and slightly elastic. This annular body 4L when slightly stretched is adapted to be forced over the cigar-receiving end of. the holder 2, and outward of its holder-engaging surface it is formed with at least oney inturned annular iiange 5, which is quite iexible'and elastic.

In the construction illustrated `in Fig. 2the l detachable tip 4 is formed with but a single inturned flange'5, while in the construction illustrated in Fig. 1 it is formed with two such flanges.

very tightly jammed into the tapered socket thereof, and in no case do they securely hold the said cigaror cigarette. Furthermore, a cigar tightly jammed into the socket of the holder will be distorted or pinchedout of shapetat its butt-end, so that it will not burn evenly. By the use of my improved tip the above-noted objections areentirely removed. The cigar when inserted as shown in the drawings will be securely held by the elastic iianges 5, even when not tightly pressed thereby, and an even pressure will be applied all around the cigar, so that the cigar will burn evenly. Furthermore, almost all ofthe pressure which is applied to the cigar is applied thereto a considerable distance forward of its eXtreme butt-end, and hence the airpassages of the cigar are not choked up.. That the above statements are facts I have demonstrated by actual use of the device described.

The form of the device illustrated in Fig. 1, wherein the two elastic flanges 5 are employed, affords abetter supporthfor the cigar than the form illustrated in Fig. 2./ -Never` theless I have found that either form of the device will very securely hold a cigar, even when the cigar is held under but slight presl sure.

From what has been said it will of course be understood that the improved device described and herein termed a tip is capable of modification within the scope of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows: The combination with a cigar or cigarette holder, of an elastic tip 4 removably lfitted on the end of said holder and provided with an inturned elastic iiange 5 adapted to engage and yieldingly hold the cigar or cigaretteI substantially as described.v
