Letters Patent No. 79,530, lated June 30, 1868.

To wHoM ITMAY CONCERN.:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. VAN HO'RN, .of Trenton,.in Mercer county, and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps to beUsed `in Bending Carriage-Bows, Felloes, and other purposes; and I hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the drawings that accompany and forma part of these specifications.
The object of'my invention is to provide a clamp to'be used in bending bows, felloes, springs, and like'pur- 7 poses,` that can be operated much quicker than any now in use.
Figure 1, perspective view, showing my clamp with section ofa bow as held by my` device. Figure, -2, sectional or side lview, on line a. b, showing the different parts.
Letter A, clamp, with flange e on each inner side. These flanges vare ,cut at an angle on the underside,
forming a wedge-like surface, as shown in fig. 2. K
Letter B, wedge, being'straight on the side coming against the 'wood or article to be held, and the other being an inclined plane, operating against the iiauge e, as shown in the drawings. This wedge B is constructed with a recessed top, which furnishes a'. convenient hand-hold, and by means of which the wedge can readily be inserted and withdrawn when the clamp is used for ordinary purposes, without the assistance of a hammer "or any other tool. i
v Letter D represents the ends of carriage-beweer other article to be held.
These clamps may be made of metal or wood, as may seem desirable, and in accordance with the work they are to be appliedto. For carriage-bows', felices, Snc., they may be made fast to the frame yor set, and crowding the wedge in-by the hand will oftentimes be all that is required, or a blow from a hammer or mullet will drivethe wedge home.
It w'illbe readily seen that for the above-described purposes my device is more easily and quickly adjusted l .than those provided with bolt and screw. v
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The clamp A, having angular flanges e e,`in combination with the'wedge B, when. the same is constructed as described, and the whole operated substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in'the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
vJOHN B. VAN HORN.
