UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED BEAUCHEMIN, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
COVER FOR SINKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 794,388, dated. July 11, 1905.
Application filed March 7, 1904. Serial No. 196,929.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED BEAUOHEMIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Covers for Sinks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the art of plumbing; and its object is to provide a protectingcover for sinks to prevent the moisture from getting at the woodwork by which the sink is supported and which if allowed to become wet soon becomes unsightly and a harbor for dirt and vermin.
The invention consists in a combined cover, back or wall board, and shelves, all made of metal, the cover and back being an integral casting without joints or crevices.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a sink provided with my Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on the line3 3, Fig. 1.
The sink 1 is of the usual shape, being a single casting having horizontal top flanges 2. The cover is made, preferably, of white metal or porcelain lined ware, and comprises a frame 3, adapted to rest flat on the flanges 2 and having a depending flange 4 along its front edge. A depending flange 5 runs continuously around the frame near its inner edge and fits easily within the sink. The back 6, which is integral with the frame 3, is perpendicular to said frame, and the angle at their junction is rounded by a fillet 7. A wide stiffening-flange 8 runs across each end of the frame and up the ends of the back, and anarrow rib 9 extends along the upper edge of the back.
A side shelf 10, consisting, preferably, of a wide angle-iron, may be bolted to the outside of each flange 8 parallel with the frame. A top shelf 11 may be provided above the back 6, being preferably a separate piece secured thereto. The shelf has a back 12 and depending brackets 13 at the ends, the lower ends of the brackets being fastened to the back 6,
a sink, as it prevents the accumulation of dirt, protects the Woodwork around the sink, makes a neat and sightly appearance, can be easily cleaned, conducts all water splashed over the cover back into the sink, and affords a convenient support for the hot and cold water pipes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is I 1. A cover for a sink, comprising a continuous integral flat plate having a central opening to register with the sink, a depending flange extending around the inner edge of said opening and adapted to fit into said sink, and an upright back integral with said plate.
2. A cover for a sink, comprising a continuous integral flat plate having an opening to register with the sink, a depending flange extending around the inner edge of said opening and adapted to fit into said sink, an upright back integral with said plate, and a transverse upright stiffening-flange at each end of the plate, integral therewith and with the back.
3. A cover for a sink, comprising an open continuous flat plate 3 having a front depending flange 4, an inner continuous depending flange 5, an upright integral back 6, a fillet 7 at the joint between the plate and the back, end flanges 8, and a top rib 9.
4. The combination with a sink-cover comprising an open frame and an upright back integral therewith, of a top shelf having a back and brackets whose lower ends are fastened to the back of the cover.
In testimony whereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
. ALFRED BEAUCHEMIN.
