  • My invention relates to sand-molding machines, and has special reference to providing such a machine for handling patterns that cannot be made with stripping plates which have to have their own cores, so that the core would drop out if the pattern would be removed before the flask is turned over. Therefore its principal object is to provide a simple and effective construction of such machine whereby the flask containing the pattern may be raised and turned after the sand has been jarred, rammed, or compacted therein, so that the pattern may be withdrawn and the flask containing the mold removed from the machine.

Be it known that I, GHARLEs HERMAN, a resident of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Molding-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to sand-molding machines, and has special reference to providing such a machine for handling patterns that cannot be made with stripping plates which have to have their own cores, so that the core would drop out if the pattern would be removed before the flask is turned over. Therefore its principal object is to provide a simple and effective construction of such machine whereby the flask containing the pattern may be raised and turned after the sand has been jarred, rammed, or compacted therein, so that the pattern may be withdrawn and the flask containing the mold removed from the machine.
My invention consists, generally stated, in the novel arrangement, construction, and combination of parts, as hereinafter more specifically set forth and described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
To enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to construct and use my invention, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my improved sand-molding machine, showing the machine with the flask in position for raising. Fig. 2 is a side View of the machine with the flask in the same position as in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view of the upper portion of the machine, showing the flask in its raised position and indicating by dotted lines the flask being turned. Fig. A is a like view, partly in section, showing the flask turned down in position for raising the pattern. Fig. 5 is a rear view showing the pattern raised and Withdrawn from the flask. Fig. 6 is adetail view of the flask raising and supporting device. Fig. 7 is an enlarged top view of the sliding frame. Fig. 8 is a detail side view, partly in section, of a portion of the device for operating the lifting-bars. Fig. 9 is a side elevation of another form of my improved moldingmachine. My improved sand molding machine is mounted and supported on a base 1, and upon this base is secured the cylindrical casing 2, which extends up therefrom and is provided with the cover or top 3 over the same, having the depending annularflangeextending down from the same and around the upper end of said casing 2. This general type or construction of machine is shown in United States Letters Patent No. '7 06,7 51, granted to me on August 12, 1902, for amolding-machine,which also shows within the casing 2 a jarring mechanism as being connected to the top 3 for compacting the sand around the pattern B within the flask A, supported above the cover or top 3 of said casing and which is not considered necessary to describe and illustrate herein, as any suitable jarring device may be used for such purpose. Substantially the same mechanism for raising the flask A after the compacting of the sand therein by the jarring mechanism is also shown, described, and claimed in said patent as herein, which consists of two standards 5, extending up from the base-plate 1 and outside of and on opposite sides of the casing 2, which standards are supported by the lower brackets 6, secured thereto and to the base-plate 1, and by the upper brackets 7 secured to said casing 2 and to said standards 5. Secured to and extending out from the standards 5 are the upper and lower clamps 8 8', respectively, for supporting and guiding the lifting-bars 9, which bars are provided with the racks 9 thereon for meshing with pinions or gear-wheels 10, mounted on a shaft 10, extending through and at one side of the casing 2, and such pinions or gear-wheels 10 are inclosed within the casings 11, which act as bearings for said shaft and are formed on and by the upper clamps 8. The shaft 10' is provided with handle-bars 11, which extend out from the hub 11, secured on said shaft and at one end thereof for operating the same. Mounted on the shaft 10 is the ratchet-wheel 12, with which a pawl 13 is adapted to engage, and this pawl is pivoted at 13 to the hub 11 for tilting and supporting the same, while a spiral spring 14 is adapted to engage with one end of said pawl for holding the same in engagement with said ratchet-wheel 12. A lever 15 is pivoted to said hub 11". at 15 for engaging with the opposite end of the pawl 13 for freeing the same during the raising of the liftingbars 9.
Secured adjacent to one of the lifting-bars 9 is the cylinder 16, whichis provided with a piston-rod 17 therein and is also provided with the usual piston 18 thereon at its lower end, while its upper end extends through said cylinder 16 and is adapted to engage with an arm 17, secured to and projecting out from the lifting-bar 9. The lower end of the cylinder 16 has an air-supply pipe 19 connected thereto, which leads from a suitable storagetank, air-pump, or other source of supply, and such pipe 19 is provided with a suitable threeway valve or stop-cock 2O thereon, which is operated by a handle 21.
A bracket 22 extends up from the patternplate 7), carrying the pattern B, and on each side of the flask A and such plate 5 is provided with the usual flanges or lugs & thereon for supporting the same upon and above the cover or top 3 of the casing 2. Extending out from each of the brackets 22 is a trunnion 23, which is adapted to enter a seat 24:, formed in the forked or bifurcated bearings 25, secured on the upper ends of the lifting-bars 9, and these brackets 22 are provided with arms or extensions 22, extending out from each side of said trunnions 23, so as to provide for the lugs 22, which are formed thereon at their outer ends. Posts 26 are secured in one of the extensions 22 and on each side of the flask A, and such posts are provided with the swinging arms 27, extending out from sleeves 26, mounted around said posts, which arms 27 are held in position by means of a h andnut 27, connected to the threaded end 26 on the posts 26 and bearing against the ends of each of said sleeves 26. The sleeves 26 are provided with the springs 26 therein and extending around the posts 26, which are adapted to be held between the flanges 27 and 27 on the post-s26 and sleeves 26, respectively, so that said springs will raise and release the arms 27 when the nuts 27 are unscrewed.
The bifurcated bearings are provided with the guides 28, formed in arms 28 thereon, and within each of said guides is mounted by its forked arms 29 the sliding frame 29, while such forked arms 29 have a lug 30 at their ends, through which an adjusting screw .or pin 30 is adapted to pass, for bearing against the lugs 22 on the extensions 22 of the brackets 22. Fulcrumed at 31 on a projection 31 on each of the sliding frames 29 is the slotted lever 32, which is pivoted at one end 32 by its slot 32 to the arms 28 on the bearings 25, and its opposite end forms a handle 33 for operating the same in moving the sliding frames 29.
The use and operation of my improved sandmolding machine are as follows: The pattern B is generally formed as part of or attached to the pattern-plate Z), and such plate, with the pattern extending up therefrom, is placed upon the cover or top 3 of the casing 2, in which case the flanges b on said plate will rest directly upon thesaid top 3. When the pattern B and plate 6 are in this position, the trunnions 23 on the brackets 22, secured to such plate 7), fit loosely, but are unseated within the seat 24 of the bearings 25 on the upper ends of the lifting-bars 9, so that after the flask A has been placed over and around the pattern B and onto the plate 6 the parts are in position for the placing of the sand within the flask. After the required quantity of sand is placed within the flask A the said flask-pattern B and platet are raised and lowered, with the top 3 and its flange 4:, above and around the casing 2 by the jarring mechanism for a suflicient number of times to compact the sand within the flask and around the pattern, and after this is accomplished and with the parts in their lowered position the operation of raising the flask to withdraw the pattern and remove the mold can be performed. In order to raise the flask A and pattern B from the top 3, all that is necessary is for the operator to place a bottom board (t on top of the flask A and clamp the same by swinging in the arms 27, so that they will come over the bottom board a, when such arms can be tightened and secured against such board by the hand-nuts 27, and after this is done the operator grasps one of the handle-bars 11' on the shaft 10 and turns the same in the proper direction to cause the lifting-bars 9 to be moved upward through the medium of the pinions 10 on said shaft meshing with the racks 9 on the lifting-bars 9, so that said bars will be given their preliminary upward movement, and with them the flask A and pattern B there in, by reason of the trunnion 23 on the brackets 22 being seated in the seats 24 of the bearings 25 on the upper ends of the lifting-bars 9. During this preliminary or starting of the upward movement of the parts by the handle-bars 11 the operator opens the valve 20 by grasping the handle 21 and at the same time releases his operations on such handlebars 11, which enables this upward movement of the bars 9, with the flask A and pattern B and their connecting parts, to be continued without interruption and with less manual labor and more rapidly by the air can be tilted by the operator turning the same under the bottom board a, and'then the operpassing through the supply-pipe 19 and valve l 20 into the cylinder 16. As the air thus enl ters the cylinder 16 it will act to raise the piston 18 therein, and with it the piston-rod 17, which being in engagement with or striking against the projecting arm 17' on the liftingbar 9 will continue the raising of said lifting bars 9, as hereinbefore described, and so raise the flask A and pattern B to the desired height above the cover or top 3 ready for tilting and lowering, and when in this raised position the flask A is held by the air in the cylinder 16. During this upward movement of the bars 9 in the .raising of the flask A and pattern B the trunnions 23 on the brackets 22 are seated within the seats 24 on the bearings 25, after which the flask and pattern within the same on the trunnions 23 in the seats 24 of the bearings 25, so that the position of the flask and pattern is reversed, with the bottom board (a on the bottom of the flask and the patternplate 7) on top of the same. The flask A and pattern B are supported and held in this position by the trunnions 23 in the seats 24 and by the heavier weight of the parts being below said trunnions or by hand, if desired. In order to lower the flask A and pattern B from the upward position down onto the top 3, the operator grasps the handle 21 on the valve 20 and closes the same, which allows the air to pass out of the cylinder 16 through the supply-pipe 19 and out through a waste-port or passageway of said valve into the open air as desired, which will permit the dropping of the piston 18 and its rod'17 within said cylinder 16, and so allow the lifting-bars 9 to be lowered by the arms 17' engaging with and dropping with said rod 17. During this lowering of the bars 9 the flask A and pattern B will also be lowered and will be supported by the trunnions23 on the brackets 22 being seated in the seats 2 1 of the bearings 25 on said bars 9, so that said flask and bottom board a are lowered down onto the coverv or top 3 in position ready for the raising of the pattern B from said flask; and during such lowering the outgoing air in passing out of the cylinder 16 will act as a cushion within the same, and so lower the flask gradually down onto said cover or top 3. After the flask A has been lowered down onto the cover or top 3 the hand-screws 27 are unscrewed, so that the swinging arms 27 can be raised by the springs 26' and swung from ator can place a vibrator C on top of the pattern-plate I), which vibrator is connected by a flexible valve-controlled air-pipe c with any suitable source of supply and is detachably held in place on said plate 5 by pins Z)" on said plate passing through lugs con said vibrator, while the vibrating rod 0 within said vibrator is adapted to engage with a lug 11 on said plate to vibrate said plate 6 and pattern B necessary is for the operator when the air is applied in order to permit the easy withdrawal of the pattern B from the flask A in the subsequent operations. In order to raise the pattern B from within the flask A after they have been lowered onto the cover or top 3, as above described, all that is to shut off the air to the vibrator G through the pipe 0 and lift said vibrator off the pins 7)" on the pattern-plate 6, although the vibrating of the pattern can be continued during the raising of the pattern from the flask and then such vibrator removed, as desired. The parts are now ready for the raising of the pattern B from within the flask A, and as the lifting bars 9 have in their lowering been dropped to their lowest position the bearings 25 thereon will have had their seats 24c freed from the trunnions 23 on the bracket-s 22 by the seating of the flask A upon the cover or top 3, so that the sliding frames 29 can be moved inward by the levers 82, and the lugs 30 on the arms 29' will thereby come under the lugs 22 on the extensions 22 of the brackets 22 to hold the pattern B level within the mold formed in the flask Ad uring the raising of said pattern, and thereby prevent injury to such mold. If it is desired,the adjusting-screws 30 on the lugs 30 can be brought into contact with the lugs 22 to adjust the frames 29 with the extensions22 and assist said frames in holding the pattern level. The'pattern B is then raised from within the flask A by the operator turning the shaft 10 through the handle-bars 11 for the preliminary upward movement and applying the air to the cylinder 16, as before described, which will raise the lifting-bars 9, by reason of the pinions 10 on said shaft ongaging with the racks 9 on said bars 9, so that by reason of the screws 80 on the sliding frame 29, engaging with the lugs 22 on the brackets 22 connected to the pattern-plate b, the said plate and pattern B will-be raised and withdrawn from within the flask A to form the mold therein. After the pattern B had been thus withdrawn from the said flask A it is held in this raised position by the air within the cylinder 16, so that the flask A containing the mold therein can be removed with the bottom board a from the cover or top 3 to the floor or other place for casting, after which the sliding frames 29 can be moved outwardly, so as to free the leveling-screws 30 from the lugs 22 and permit the pattern B to drop so that the trunnions 23 can be seated in the seats 24: of the bearings 25. The pattern B can then be turned to its reversed position by such trunnions 23 bearing in said seats 24, after which the air can be exhausted from the cylinder 16, as before described, to allow the pattern B to drop down so that its plate Z) will again rest upon the cover or top 3, when the flask A can be placed over the same and the operations repeated.
In Figs. 9, 10, and 11 there is shown another form of my improved molding-machine,
such as would be used in the making of other molds-as, for instance, cores in a drag for cope and drag moldsand in the case where a circular flask A is employed for the making of the core D the brackets 22 are done away with, so that the trunnions 23 extend directly out from and are connected to the circular flanged plate a on the flask A by means of a plate 23, having lugs 23, projecting out on each side of said trunnions 23 for engaging with the lugs 30 on the sliding frame 29 and the leveling-screws 30 therein. The coreflask A is adapted to rest upon the cover or top 3 and a drag-flask A is placed upon the flask A, while supporting-rods cl are secured to the flange a, so as to extend between the flanged plate a and cover or top 3 to r strengthening the flaskA and plate a while in posil tion. After the sand has been placed within the flasks A and A and such sand is compacted therein by the jarring of the same on the cover or top 3 a bottom board 0 is placed on the flask A and the flasks A and A clamped together by the clamps d engaging with said plate a and with the said bottom board 0 and the plate a under the flask A, as shown in Fig. 9. After this is accomplished the flasks A A are raised, then turned into a, reversed position, and then lowered to allow the bottom board cto rest upon the top 3 by the lifting-bars 9, bearings 25 engaging the trunnions 23 and sliding frame 29, as hereinbefore described. The clamps (Z can then be removed, after which the lugs 30 on the frame 29 can be inserted under the lugs 23 on the plate 23 connected to the flask A and the screws 30 adjusted so that the flask A can be raised by the lifting-bars 9 from the flask A and above the core D on said flask A, as is shown in Fig. 10, and after this is done the flask A, with its core D, is lifted from the top 3 onto the molding floor or table and a cope-mold containing a moldcavity placed over the same for pouring. The flask A can then be reversed by the trunnions 23 in the bearings 25 and lowered by the lifting-bars 9 onto the top 3, when the dragflask A can be placed thereon, and after which the said flasks can be clamped together by the clamps (Z and the operations repeated, as before described.
It will be evident that the lifting-bars 9 can be raised and lowered by the handle-bars 11 on the shaft 10 throughout the operation of the machine without the use of the air-cylinder 16, and in such case the bars 9 can be held in their raised positions by the pawls 13 being held in engagement with the ratchetwheel 12 on the shaft 10 through the lever 15, which will prevent the pinions 10 from turning, and so lockthe bars 9 in such positions. WVhen the lever 15 is released from the pawl 13, the spring 14 connected to said pawl will be relieved from its compression and act to disengage said pawl from the wheel 12, so that thepinions 10 are free to revolve and allow the bars 9 to be lowered. It will also be obvious that this ratchet-and-pawl device can be used with the air-cylinder, if desired, and that other fluid than air, such as steam, &c., may be used to operate said cylinder. It will be further obvious that the trunnions can be flattened on one side, as at 2 1 in Fig. 13, so that the flask and pattern can be raised and the patternli fted from the flask without the use ofthe lugs on each side of the trunnions and the sliding frames for engaging with the same after the sand has been compacted and the flask and pattern have been raised, reversed, and lowered down onto the top of the machine.
Various other modifications and changes in the construction, operation, and design of the various parts of my improved molding-machine may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
The machine is strong and durable in its parts, and practical experience has proven that where molds are to be turned to complete the same by withdrawing the patterns the devices employed will do away with the tedious and heavy lifting required in these operations and at the same time overcome the possible injury of the molds in forming the same.
On this arrangement of machine the pattern is screwed to a plate with trunnions that are furnished with the machine, and the operations are the same as required when molds are rammed by hand on the floor; but they are all made with a mechanical precision requiring no hard work. The operating devices can easily be removed from the machine when required, and patterns with stripping plates can also be used with the same machine. The machine is designed for large and deep work, and all trouble arising from sand getting into the working parts and under the pattern-plate is overcome by the use of the sliding forks.
WVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
2. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask. 3. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means engaging with said pattern-plate for raising said pattern to permit the same to'be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means engaging with said pattern-plate for raising and lowering said plate to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
5. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom,trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means connected to and engaging with said plate for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
6. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom,trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means connected to and engaging with said plate for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask afterbeing reversed and lowered, and means fitting under said projections for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
7. Ina molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets secured on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, means engaging with said trunnions for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed, and means fitting under said brackets for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
8. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets secured on said plate, trunnions on said plate, means engaging with said trunnions for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed, and means fitting under said brackets for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets secured to said plate, trunnions on said brackets, means engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, and means fitting under said brackets for holding said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, and means engaging with said trunnions and lugs for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets secured to said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, and means engaging with said trunnions and lugs for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, means engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, and means fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending outtherefrom, brackets on said plate,trunnions on said brackets, logs on said brackets, means engaging with said pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, and means engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said bracket vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the liftingof the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowcred, means for operating said lifting-bars, and means on said lifting-bars engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, vertically-movable liftingbars engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, means for operating said lifting-bars, and sliding frames on said bars engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, means for operating said lifting-bars, sliding frames on said bars, and screw-pins in said frames engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask.
17. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be raised and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, means for operating said liftingbars, sliding frames on said bars engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and levers on said bars and connected to said frames for operating the frames.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate extending out therefrom, brackets on said plate, trunnions on said brackets, lugs on said brackets, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be re versed and for the lifting of the pattern from within the flask after being reversed and lowered, means for operating said lifting-bars, guides on said bars, sliding frames mounted in said guides and engaging with said lugs fitting under said brackets for holding the said pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and levers on said guides and connected to said. frames for operating the frames.
19. In amolding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask to permit the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and a power-motor engaging with said lifting-bars for operating the same.
20. In amolding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask to permit the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and a power-cylinder having its piston -rod engaging with one of said lifting-bars for operating the same.
21. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask to permit the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, an arm on one of said bars, and a power-cylinder having its pistonrod adapted to engage with said arm for operating said lifting-bars.
22. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask and for lifting the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and a power-motor engaging with said lifting-bars for operating the same.
23. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask and for lifting the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, and a power-cylinder having its piston-rod engaging with one of said lifting-bars for operating the same.
24. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections -on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars for raising said flask and lifting the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, an arm on one of said bars, and a powercylinder having its piston-rod adapted to engage With said arm for operating said liftingbars.
25. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, mechanism for operating said liftingbars, and mechanism for holding said liftingbars in their raised position.
26. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gear-wheels on said shaft and meshing with said racks to operate said lifting-bars, and mechanism on said shaft for holding said lifting-bars in their raised position.
27. In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon,
trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fltting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gcar-wheels on said shaft and meshing with said racks to operate said lifting bars, a ratchet-wheel on said shaft, and a pawl engaging with said ratchet-wheel for holding said lifting-bars in their raised position.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gear-wheels on said shaft and meshing with said racks to operate said lifting bars, a ratchet-wheel on said shaft, a spring-operated pawl for engaging with said ratchet-Wheel to hold said lifting-bars in their raised position,
and a pivoted lever adapted to come in contact with the said pawl for holding the same in engagement with said ratchet-wheel.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for lifting the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, mechanism for operating said lifting-bars, and mechanism for holding said lifting-bars in their raised position.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding ,the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gearwheels on said shaft and meshing with said ac-ks to operate said lifting-bars, and mechanism on said shaft for holding said liftingvbars in their raised position.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections .for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gear-wheels on said shaft and meshing with said racks to operate said liftingbars, a ratchet-wheel on said shaft, and a pawl engaging with said ratchet-wheel for holding said lifting-bars in their raised position.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, vertically-movable lifting-bars engaging with said trunnions for raising the same with said flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the lifting of the pattern from the flask, means fitting under the said projections for holding the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, gear-racks on said lifting-bars, a shaft, gear-wheels on said shaft and meshing with said racks to operate said lifting bars, a ratchet-wheel on said shaft, a spring-operated pawl for engaging with said ratchet-wheel to hold said lifting-bars in their raised position,
and a pivoted lever adapted to come in contact with the said pawl for holding the same in engagement with said ratchet-wheel.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, proections on said pattern-plate, means for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed for the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections to hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask and a vibrator detachably connected to said pattern for vibrating the same after the flask and pattern are reversed.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or proections on said trunnions, means for raising said pattern and flask to permit the same to be reversed for the Withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections tov hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask and a vibrator detachably connected to said plate for vibrating the same and pattern after the flask and pattern are reversed.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or proections on said trunnions, means for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed for the withdrawing of the pat-- tern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections to hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask a lug on said plate, and a vibrator detachably connected to said plate and engaging with said lug to vibrate the plate and pattern after the flask and pattern are reversed.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means for raising said pattern and flask to permit the same to be reversed and for the Withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections to hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask and a vibrator detachably connected to said plate for vibrating the same and pattern after the flask and pattern are reversed.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern having a plate thereon, trunnions on said pattern-plate, arms or projections on said trunnions, means for raising said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections to hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask, a lug on said plate and a vibrator detachably connected to said plate and engaging with said lug to vibrate the plate and pattern after the flask and pattern are reversed.

In a molding-machine, the combination of a flask, a pattern havinga plate thereon,projections on said pattern-plate, means for raising and lowering said flask and pattern to permit the same to be reversed and for the withdrawing of the pattern from the flask, means for fitting under said projections to hold the pattern level during the lifting of the same from the flask and a vibrator detachably connected to said pattern for vibrating the same after the flask and pattern are lowered.
