DEVICE FOR MARKING GOODS.
APPLICATION FILER MAY 26, 1904.
Wiliumow a citizen of the United States, residing at Wi- UNITED STATES,
Patented January 31, 1905.
PATENT "OFFIC DEVICE FOR MARKING- GOODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of 'Letters Patent No. 781,386, dated January 31, 1905.
Application filed May 25, 1904. Serial No. 209,769.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Vl ALTER HOLMAN WrrrY,
nona, in the county of Montgomery and State of Mississippi, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Marking Goods, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to tags or like devices for marking goods to indicate the, price, quality, or any other characterist c, and 18 more particularly adapted for use on drygoods and similar fabrics which are arranged in rolls or bolts.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a simple and efiectivedevice,
struction and arrangement of the several parts,
which will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bolt or roll of fabric, showing the improved device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the improved device. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3 3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view 'of a portion of the device, showing a slight modification. 7
Similar numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.
The numeral 1 designates a holding member or body-plate, which is constructed from thin sheet metal and of such length as to extend considerable distance into a roll or bolt of fabric to provide a reliable securing means for the remaining features, which will be more fully hereinafter set forth. The member or plate 1 near its inner end is formed withupwardly-projecting spurs 2, cut therefrom and having their pointed ends directed toward the outer end of of the vertical sides of the frame land having the edges projected inwardly to form embracing-flanges 6, accessible at the upper terminals of the end portions thereof and adapted to removably receive a marking-card 7 on which the cost, selling price, quality, or other characteristics relating to the goods to which the improved device may be applied areshown. The card 7 is replacable at will and may be readily inserted in and withdrawn'from the clasp in view of the upper terminals of the end portions of the said clasp being located below the outer end of the member or plate 1.
, In applying the improved device the member or plate 1 is slipped into one end of the bolt or roll of fabric close to and against the winding-board usually located within the roll, and the frame-bearing the card depends over a portion of the roll end, as shown by Fig. 1.
The movable attachment of the frame carrying the card and the plate or member is adindicated, the card may be readily replaced] In Fig. i the upper'portions of the flanges 6 have auxiliary means for frictionally holding the marking-card therein and prevent such card from becoming accidentally detached. The outer flange on each side of the frame 1 .is formed in this instance with an inwardlybent spring tongue 8, the tongues being adapted to firmly bear against the card. Both tongues are curved to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the card.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In a device of the class set forth, the combination with a holding member, of a frame comprising a wire strip movably connected to the forward end of the plate, and a metal strip encircling the wire with its free ends projecting interiorly of the frame to provide a cardclasp.
2. A device for marking goods comprising a plate rolled at its forward end to form a hingesocket, and a card-supporting frame comprising a single-length wire bent into rectangular shape withits ends inserted in said hingesocket.
3. A device for marking goods, comprising a plate rolled at its forward end to provide a 'hinge-socket, a frame of rectangular shape comprising a single length of wire with the ends seated in said socket, and a metal strip embracing the frame, the free edges of the strip projecting interiorly of the frame to form a card-clasp.
4. Adevicefor marking goods comprising a plate formed with a hinge-socket at its forward end, and a card-supporting frame constructed of wire, the ends of the wire being seated in the socket.
5. A device for marking goods comprising a plate rolled at its forward end to provide hinged socket and formed intermediate its ends with V-shaped spurs, a frame of rectangular shape comprising a single length of wire with the ends seated in said socket, and a metal strip embracing the frame, the free edges of the strip projecting interiorly of the frame to form a card-clasp, said strip being formed with U-shaped tongues to engage the card.
In testimony \vhereofl afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
