IMPROVEMENT i IN LAMP-SEARS.

Beit known tha-.t I, E. K. HAYNns, of Hanover, in 'the county of Grafton, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Lamp-Shade; and Ido hereby declare that the following, taken in connectionrwith the drawings which accompany and form part of this specilication, is a description oir-my invention suicient to enable those skilled inthe art to practise it.

My invention relates to the construction ofa lamp-shade, to be supported directly upon a. lamp-"chimney,

by hanging it upon the top of the same.

United States Letters Patent, No71,168, were'vgranted to me, November 19, 1867, on a. lamp-shade-supported upon a. frame of wires, and capable of adjustment thereon, by sliding this wire frame, being xcd to a ring made to fit upon the cap or burner of the lamp.

l My present invention-relates toal provision for hanging, from the top of the chimney, u sliding shade, simif larly supported by and upon a. frame of wires.

In United States Letters Patent, No. 66,576, of July 9, 1867, there is shown a. shade snpportedon a single wire, which Wire has n hook at its upper end, by which to suspend it from the top of the chimney.

Such construction is imperfect, in that it furnishes no adequate provision for properly holding a curved shade, or for keeping such ashade concentricto the lamp-chimney.

In my improved shade, I mount thescreen upon 'afframe glade up of two uprights, bent and joined Aat their lower ends, and each having a. hook at itsdupper end, the two hooks keeping the shade from swinging, and the two wires nii'ording a rm support for a curved screen, through staples, upon which the wires run, enablinglthe screen to be adjusted, as to height, upon the frame. l

It is in this improved construction that my invention consists.

The wires pass through staples, f, xed to the screen a, and ns the frame made by the Awires is somewhat' rigid, the curved form of the screen is not only preserved, but the screen is kept from twisting or swinging upop the frame, :1s it inclinos to de when supported upon only one wire.

Near their upper ends,.the wires are bent towards cach other, and, at its cxtreme end, each is bent over to form a hook, g, by the pnirof which the screenis suspended fromv the chimney-top, as se'cn in the'drawing.

I claim n lamp-shade, made up of n screen, supported upon two uprights, bentnnd joined nt their` lower ends, to connect them, and to support the screen'at'proper distance from theehi'mney, and bent and made hookformed, at their vupper ends, to suspend the screen from the top of the chilnney,the screen sliding upon the E. K. HAYNES.
