Lentement No. 78,083, dated .my 19,1 186s.
IMPROVED CORNICE IOR BUILDINGS.
@the dgstnle tfmr tu in time eiter bifmt submitting @im nf the time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONC-EBN:
Be it known that I,V C. HARE, of Louisville, in the coun-ty of Jefferson, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and improved Mode' of Setting Cornices; and Ido hereby declare that the following is full',
clear, and exact description thereof, whichwill enable Athose' skilled in `the art to make and use the same, referencebeing had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,V ,v
` The present invention relates to an improved mode of setting or putting up galvanized iron cornice's, so called.
Heretofre, these cornices have lbeen either-,nailed to the wooden 1ook-outs, so term'ed, or heavy sheetmetal stays are soldered inside the cornieeand'nailed to the-side of the wooden lookout. By thev iii-st mode, when ae occurs, if the wood inside ofgthe cornice` hecomesred, there is no chance of reaching 'it withv water, while by the second mode the solder will melt, jloosening the cornice, which will sag, and thus berendered unsightly and worthless.
The present 'invention consists in using cast-iron inside brackets or look-outs, whereby the cornice is rendered {ire-proof, the cornice being secured tothe said brackets or look-outs, withscrews passing through lugs atsuitable points of the same, with the screw-heads countersunk so as kto be embedded in the sheet metal, leaving a smoothputsi'de surface, with no wood near it.
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improved mode of setting sheet-metal coi-nicas is illustratedvFigure 1 being an end'view of a. cornice set according thereto, and.
Figure 2 an inside view of thecornice. l v 4 y l A, inthe drawings, represents a crnice, which may be madeof any suitable design or`shape; B, the castiron brackets or look-outs, of suitable shape to receive the cornice, and provided with lugs, C, at suitable points, through which screws D are passed for .securing the cornice to the brackets.
I claim as new, and desire to` secure by Letters Patent- Y A cast-iron or other metal bracket or look-out for receivinga ysheet-metal cornice, substantially as desc`riherl.
