Description

Letters Patent No. 78,065, dated May 19; 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN CARPENTERS GAUGES.
GU12 fizlgzhule mm in in flggseflzttm haunt ant making-girth 1kg: same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, F. WLCOY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Garpenters- Gauges; and I do hereby declarethat the fol-iowing is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying dratwings, and 'to the letters of reference marked thereon;
The nature of my invention consists in so arrangiug the head of a earpenters'gauge that that bartof itwhich forms the guide maybe set at any desired angle, so as to fit the bevel of the stock being worked.
To enable others skilled in the ante make and use my invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construe 'tion and use.
' In the drawings- Figure 1 is a view in elevation, showing the gauge complete. Figure 2 is a view of the adjustable guide. The beam or rule A Bis made of wood or any suitable material, and in th e-usual-n1anner., Sliding upon this blOClilB the guide-carrier G, which is provided with a set-screw, D, so that it may be made fast at any pointon the beam A B.:
v If desirable, the guide-carrier may be .moved along the beam by a longitudinal screw passing through the beam, and connected to the carrier by a screw-nut. Among mechanics this device is called a tail-screw. The adjustable guide H L is so attached to the carrier that it is free to swing on the point S, as indicated by the dotted lines in fig. 1, and may be held at any desiredangle by the set-screw K. I 7
By loosening the set-screw K, the guide H L may be turned. so that the plane L inay form any angl e with the beam A B, thus adapting the gauge to ,work bevelled stock;
Having thus descfibed my invention, I will proceed-to set forth my claim. What I claim as 'my invention, anddesire to secure'by Letters Patent, is-- A carpenters" gauge, the guide L of which is capable of angular adjustment, in the manner and operating substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
