IDA M. MURPHY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DASHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 789,288, dated May 9, 1905,
Application l January 25, 1904. Serial No. 190.459.
To (LU/ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, IDA M. MURPHY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dashers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in dashers, and has particularly for its object to provide an improved form of dasher whereby very superior results are produced when the dasher is used for the purpose for which it is desired.
A further object is to provide a dasher with air passages or ducts arranged therein in a novel manner, so as to produce the good results referred to.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents the dasher in side elevation. Fig. 2 represents the same in top plan. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section, and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section of a slightly-modified form.
The dasher, comprising a plurality of wings radiating from its axis, is herein shown as being rectangular in cross and longitudinal sections or, in other words, comprising a rectangular block 1, having its axis about halfway between the sides of the block. The top and bottom of the dasher are denoted by 2 and 3, its sides by 4 and 5, and its faces by 6 and 7. Oppositely-arranged cutting edges 8 are formed by the junction of the sides and faces of the dasher, the said cutting edges extending from the top to the bottom thereof. A shaft fitting or socket 9 is provided for the attachment of the shaft. (Not shown herein.) I provide a plurality of transverse air passages or ducts 10 adjacent to the cutting edges, which ducts open through the sides 4 and 5 of the dasher. In the form shown in Fig. 3 one only of these transverse or horizontal air passages or ducts extends entirely through the body of the dasher. In Fig. 4 1
have shown all three of the horizontal air passages or d ucts as extending enti rel y through the body of the dasher. I provide a vertical air passage or duct 11 upon each side of the shaftfitting, which air passages or ducts connect with the several horizontal air passages or ducts 10 and connect the said transverse or horizontal air-passages with the external air.
It is evident that other forms might be provided than that shown herein. Hence I do not wish to limit myself to the particular arrangement herein shown and described, but
What I claim is 1. A churn-dasher having a body and a shaft-fitting, said body having oppositely-arranged cutting edges, and a horizontal air-i passage adjacent to such edges and extending entirely through the body of the dasher, and with vertical air-passages connecting with the horizontal passage on each side of the shaftlitting, substantially as set forth.
2. A churn-dasher having a body and a shaft-fitting, said body having oppositely-arranged cutting edges, a transverse air-passage opening through the body adjacent to one of the edges and a vertical air-passage at one side of the shaft-fitting, connected with the transverse air-passage, said vertical airpassage opening through the top of the body of the dasher, substantially as set forth.
3. A churn-dasher having a body and a shaft-fitting, said body having oppositely-arranged cutting edges and a plurality of airpassages adjacent to such edges, one or more of the passages extending entirely through the body of the dasher, and with vertical airpassages connecting with the horizontal passages on each side of the shaft-fitting, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 20th day of J anuary, 1904.
IDA M. MURPHY.
