Description

No. 788,636. PATENTED MAY 2, 19051 0. DENKER.
CIGAR.
APPLICATION FILED D30. 24, 1903.
I f-werzzfvr 1 4 7% flsearjadar UNITED STATES Patented May 2, 1905.
OSCAR DENKER, OF POTSDAM, GERMANY.
CIGAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,636, dated May 2, 1905.
Application filed December 24, 1903. Serial No. 186,440.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OSCAR DENKER, manufacturer, a subject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at the city of Potsdam, in the Kingdom of Prussia, GermanEmpire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigars; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to an improvement in the fastening of the coveringleaf of cigars. It comprises a ring for securing the covering-leaf of cigars. The ring is formed of tin-plate and is compressed after its application to the covering-leaf, so that it takes the shape of the cigar-tip. Thereby also the ring is held firm by friction, and damage of the covering-leaf is prevented.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view of a cigar with the ring applied, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the ring.
The cigar is first rolled in the usual manner and then wrapped in a covering-leaf, so that the finished cigar does not appear diiferent from the usual shape. The covering-leaf,
however, is not gummed or the like, but is held fast by means of a ring on, placed upon the tip of the cigar, formed of tin-plate or other suitable material and from three to four millime- This ring is secured upon ters in breadth.
the tip of the cigar by means of a suitable mechanism, so that it fits closely to the tip of the cigar, said mechanism forming creases a in the ring which are pressed into the cigar.
The creased tin-plate ring is intended to be secured, according to this invention, upon the covering-leaf by friction alone, and when the tip of the cigar is cut off, as usual, it is easily released, and the cigar can be smoked in an agreeable manner and without occasioning a loose ragged covering-leaf. I am well aware of similar means for securing the coveringleaf at the tip of the cigar, which consist in caps of sheet metal held on the cigar-tip by means of hooks or projections. These hooks or projections, however, cause holes in the covering-leaf, while the same is not violated by the ring according to my invention.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A cigar having a metallic ring for securing the covering-leaf at the tip thereof, said ring having creases running transversely thereof and longitudinally of the axis of the cigar.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR DENKER.
