SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 787,067, dated April 11, 1905.

Be it known that I, Jaoon L. Brenna, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of (ook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Campaign-Buttons, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.

.lly invention relates to an article of novelty to be worn as a campaign-button; and it has for its object to provide a simple and cheap article of this character which shall be attractive and novel in its operation and capable of having either side readily displayed at the will of the wearer.

With these ends in view the invention consists in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts by which the said object and certain other objects hereinafter appearing are attained, all as fully described with reference to the accompanyii'ig drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

1 is a button or disk, which may be con structed in any suitable manner, and to one face of which is secured or has formed thereon matter to be displayed such, for example, as the words which appear in Fig. l, and which words, if desired, may be printed or stamped directly upon the disk or button or otherwise attached thereto. Upon the opposite side of the disk or button may be printed or attached the likeness of the wearers choice of the candidates or any other matter as the fancy of the designer or wearer may dictate.

The disk or button 1 is formed or provided at the edge with a shank 2, which projects inwardly at an angle to the plane of the disk or button I, so as to pass through the lapel-buttonhole 3, while the disk or button lies flat against the lapel with either face displayed, and this shank is formed with or secured to a retaining member or button l, which is in the form of a flat projection of sufficient lateral extension to prevent the shank from pulling out of the buttonhole and which is arranged in a plane substantially parallel with the plane of the disk '1, so that it will lie flat against the back of the lapel.

To the button or member 4 is attached at a point near the upper or outer edge thereof a suitable cord or flexible connection 5, which may be drawn dmvnwardly to a point below the lapel convenient to the lingers of the wearer, so that by pulling upon the cord the button or disk 1 will be reversed, taking the shank 2 as its turning point or fulcrum, and when the cord is released the weight of the button or disk 1 will automatically return it to its former position, as shown in Fig. '1, displaying the side thereof originally displayed.

Having thus described my invention, what 1 claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. As a new and useful article of manufacture, a button comprising a shank adapted to extend through a buttonhole and connected to the button to one side of the center thereof and means connected with the inner end of said shank for reversing said button.

2. As a new and useful article of manufacture, a button comprising a shank projecting from the edge thereof and adapted to extend through a buttonhole, means on the inner end of said shank for retaining it in the buttonhole and means connected with said latter means for pulling upon said shank and reversing the button.

3. As a new and useful article of manufacture, a button comprising a shank extending from the edge thereof at an angle to its face, and adapted to project through a buttonhole, a retaining member on the inner end of said shank arranged in a plane substantially parallel with the face of the button and a cord attached to said retaining member whereby a pull may be exerted thereon for reversing the button.
