Be it known that I, JOHN A. WEN'rz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paola, in the county of Miami and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corn-Husking Implements; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in implements for husking corn, and is especially designed to provide an auxiliary means to the husking-hook now commonly used, so as to facilitate the husking operation.

To more fully describe the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the same, in which Figure 1 shows my invention applied to the hand of the operator; and Fig. 2 a plan view of the detached husking-plate, the dotted lines showing the position of the huskinghook proper before being bent to its operative position. 1 designates a hand-pad of leather or other suitable flexible material, which is so constructed as to be adapted to rest on the palm of the hand and the ball of the thumb, the inner end encircling the wrist and secured therearound by a strap 2 and buckle 3. The strap 4 is secured at one end to the forward upper corner of the pad 1 and is adapted to pass between the thumb and forefinger and attached to the rear upper portion of the pad 1 by the buckle 5 or in any other suitable Way.

6 is a plate stamped from a suitable piece of metal and is adapted to be secured to the leather portion 1 in any suitable manner, such, for instance, as by the rivets 7. This plate, as clearly shown, comprises the rear enlarged portion having the two forwardlyprojecting tongues or blades 8 and 9, the tongue 8 being slightlylonger than the tongue 9 and adapted to be bent inwardly over the base portion of the plate to form a huskinghook as ordinarily constructed. The tongue portion 9 is slightlybent to curve backwardly, as shown in Fig. 1, the under edge 10 forming a cutting or gripping edge for the husks and the upper edge 11 a support for the thumb.

It is well known that in shucking corn the inner husks oftentimes cling to the ear, and the peculiar shape of the husking-tongue 9 affords a ready means for separating this clinging portion of the husks besides coopcr ating with the huskin -hook proper to form a double shucker, the husking-hook 8 being adapted to strip off the husks in one direction of movement and the tongue 9 in the re verse direction.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A corn-husking implement comprising a base portion havin a pair of normally forwardly-extending tongues stamped from a metallic plate, and forming a continuation of the peripheral edge thereof, the lower one of said tongues being slightly longer than the other and bent rearwardly over said base portion to form a husking-hook, and the other of said tongues being slightly curved backwardly to form an upper forwardly-exteud ing auxiliary husking member, and means for securing said implement to the palm of the hand.

2. A corn-husking implement formed from suitable metal, comprising an enlarged base portion provided with a pair of forwardly-extending tongues, the lower of said tongues being slightly longer than the other and bent rearwardly over said base portion to form a rearwardly and downwardly disposed husking-hook, and the upper member being bent backwardly to form an upwardly-disposed curved auxiliaryhusking member, and means for securing said implement to the palm of the hand of the operator.

3. In a corn-husking implement, the combination with a suitable flexible hand-pad, of a metallic plate secured to said hand-pad, comprising an enlarged base portion, a husking-hook formed integral with said base portion, a husking-tongue formed integral with the peripheral edge of said base portion and extending forwardly thereof, out of alinement with said husking-hook, and means for securing said pad to the palm of the hand,

over said base portion to form a huskinghook and the other of sold. tongues being located. at the upper corner of said plate and curved slightly baelnvard to form an aux1liary huskrng member.
