Description

WILLIAM G.' WELLS,V 0E PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Lenen! Patent No. 78,560, dated June 2, 186s.
@In Stigemle rtftmt trulgest ttttets gtitnt :mt mtttg @ttt 11i-ttt ttm.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. WELLS, of Philadelphia, in the' county -of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Creeper g and I do hereby declare that 'th'e following is a full and exact description thereof, reference bei-ng had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. p
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a creeper, composed of leather, or other soft and pliable material, upon which spurs are fastened by means of washers, and by riveting, the said Creeper to be worn beneath the sole of. the shoe," andto be attachable thereto, and detachable therefrom, i
by means of straps or other suitable fastening, the use of the said "creeper being"` to prevent the wearer from slipping whilst walking upon sidewalks that are. covered with ice.
Figure I is a bottom view ofthe Creeper, showing the spurs a a 'a a, and the Washers B B B B.
-Fgure 2 is a top view,'or the reverse of fig. I', and shows the washers B'B' B' B', and the'riveted ends of the pivots c c e c.
Figure 3 shows the spur a', with its pivote, and the washers B'B'.
Figure 4 shows Aa shoe', and the manner in `which the oreeper should be attached.
I construct my creeper :1s follows, to wit: Through the aperture in the washer B, iig. 3, I pass the ivotc of the s ur a, until the shoulder of the' s ur bears u on the washer; the ivot c is then assed f P P P P P P Mw.
through the piece of 'leather, E', whichis perforated for the purpose, until the end of the said pivot pfojects beyond the surface of the leather-,opposite to where it entered. A second washer, B', is then placed on the projecting end ofthe pivot c, fig. 2, which brings the leather between the two washers. The projecting end of the pivot c is then riveted down uponthe washer B', thus fastening the spur a and both washers, B B', firmly upon the leather. `This process is repeated until the requisite number of spurs and washers yare fastened upon the leather. 'Straps and buckles are then attached to the leather, and the Creeper is complete. v
Ido not claim as my invention the attaching of spurs to the bottom of a shoe, to prevent the wearer from slipping, nor do I claim the construction of a. Creeper to be fastened to the shoe as new; but
What I'do claim as my invention, and for which I desire to .secure Letters Patent, is, viz.:
Claim.
A .creeper, composed of a piece of 'leather or other soft material, with metal -spus fastened thereon, by means of metal washers, and byriveting, when said` piece of leather, with spurs thereon, is constructed separate from the shoe, and vis intended to beworn beneath the sole ofthe shoe, and is attachable to and detachable from the shoe, substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM C. WELLS.
