CALENDAR.s
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,974, dated March 14, 1905.
Application tiled November 2l, 1904. Serial No. 233,627.
To all 1071/0777/ t muy conceive:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. Brees, a citizen of. the United States, residing' at Glasgow, in the county of Barren and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Calendars, of which the following isa speciiication.
My invention is an improvement in calendars intended especially for pocket use and more particularly as an advertising novelty; and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations ol: parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a i'ace view ol my calendar. Fig. Q isa cross-section thereoit. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view olE a part of the main section. Fig. et is a detail face view oi' the central section. Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the rear side of the central section.
My calendar, as shown, comprises the main section or disk A, the central section or disk B, and the back plate or disk C. These may be made wholly or partly oi' celluloid, metal, paper, or other suitable material or combination of material and may be colored, plated, ornamented, or otherwise finished to suit.
The main disk A has its face at its outer edg'e divided into seven sections a, containing' in order the names of the days ot the week irom Monday t0 Sunday, the circular strip containing' said days of the week being' the only portion of the Yface of the disk showing in the completed calendar. A circular opening A is formed at the center of the disk A, and the latter is rabbeted at al' surrounding the opening A and receiving the central disk B, which is provided on its rear side with a circular projection B', turning in the circular opening' A ot' the main disk.
The center of the face of the central disk B may be ornamented in any suitable way or may receive any desired advertisement, and the tace ol this disk at its outer edge is divided into segmental sections L, registering with the sections a ofthe main disk A, and having in its said divisions b numbers in series extending' in a circular direction and corresponding to the days ot' the month which Ytall upon the days of the week with which the said sections may be registered in any particular adjustment oi the calendar. By turning' the central section relatively to the main section the proper sections 7; may be adjusted to register with the proper sections a ol the main disk to set the calendar Vfor any g'iven month.
The central portion B oT the disk E projects through the opening A in the disk A and is secured to the back disk C, which tits against the rear face ot' and extends outward V[lush with the outer edge ot' the main disk and may be ornaniented or decorated in any suitable manner or may receive iulvertiseinents, as desired by the maker.
The disks B and C may be secured together by pasting, gluing, riveting, soldering, or in other suitable manner as desired.
The construction is simple and inexpensive and furnishes a perpetual calendar which can be carried in the pocket and quickly set, whenever desired, to suit any month.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The calendar herein described comprising the main disk havingl its face divided at its outer edge into seven sections containing' in order the names of the days of the week and having a central opening and its Ylace rahheted surroundingsuch opening', the central disk litting in the rabbet oi' the main disk and having its lace at its outer edge divided into sections corresponding to and registering with those of the main disk and having' in the sections ol the central disk numbers in series extending in a circumferential direction and corresponding to the days ot' the month which t'all upon the days of the week with which the said sections may be registered in any particular adjustnient of the calendar, the circular projection on the rear side ol" the central section and turning in the central opening of the main section and the back plate secured to said circular projection ot' the central disk substantially as set Yforth.
2. The calendar herein described comprising the main disk inscribed with the days of the week and having' a central circular opening and a rabbet in its iacc surrounding said IOO central opening' andthe central section having a circular series ot' numbers arranged in sets corresponding' to the days of the month which 'fall upon the days oiI the week and fitted in the rabbeted portion of the main disk with its numbers registering with the days oi: the week on the main disk and having on its rear face a circular projection litting and turning' in the circular opening in the inain disk substantially as set forth.
3. The combination in acalendar of the main disk having a central circular opening and a rabbet in its tace surrounding' such opening', the central disk iittingl in said rabbet in the main disk and havingI on its rear side a circular projection fitting in the circular opening in the main disk and the back plate secured to the said circular projection ot' the central disk and litting against the rear face of the main disk and extending at its outer edge to and coinciding at such edge with the outer ed ge ot the main disk substantially as set Vt'orth.
el. A calendar substantially as described comprising' a main disk having a central open` ingl and having' its 'face rabbeted surrounding` such opening, the surface of the disk surrounding' the rabbet beingl iinpertorate and continuous or unbroken throughout its circumference, the central disk fitting,` in the rabhet of the main disk and made ot' a thickness equal to the depth of the rabbet wherebjv its outer face will be Hush with that of the main disk, the outer face of said central disk beingl imperforate and unbroken throughout, said central disk being' provided on its innerside with a circular projection fitting and turning' in the circular opening of the main disk and made oi a thickness equal to the rabbeted portion of the main disk, and the back disk secured to said circular projection and overlappingl the rear face of the main disk and extending at its outer edge to and coinciding' at said outer edge with the outer edge otl the main disk and said back plate or disk being" imper- Vforate and unbroken throughout its surface, all substantialljv as described whereby there is provided an adjustable calendar et' unilorm thickness throughout and free ol all openings and adapted to be printed upon throughout its entire surface altcr its parts are assembled, substai'itialljT as set lorth.
