DISK LISTING-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,765, dated March 14, 1905. Application filed April 2, 1904. Serial No. 201,336.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON D. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stafford, in the county of Stafford and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Disk Listing-Flows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plows, and particularly to that class known as disk listingplows.
The general object of my invention is to provide a listing-plow of the class referred to having disk moldboards pivoted on novel adjusting means.
Furthermore, the object of the invention is to provide an adjusting device for the disks which will permit of either a vertical or hori- Zontal adjustment.
Furthermore, the objeetof the invention is to provide a device of the character named which will possess advantages in points of simplicity and general efficiency and at the same time be comparatively inexpensive to produce and sustain.
l/Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts in the several views are indicated by similar reference characters, and in which Figure l is a view in elevation of the lister with one disk removed. tive view showing the adjusting means. Fig. 3 is a view, partly in section, showing the means for securing the disks on the axle.
In the drawings, 1 denotes the beam, which may be of wood or iron, either round or square in cross-section, with a portion curved downwardly at its rear end, forming a footpiece 2, the said foot-piece being tapered forwardly to a point, and on each side of the foot and formed integrally with the foot are laterally-extending wings 3 and 3', which in conjunction with the foot-piece serve to support Fig. 2 is a perspee-' the plow-point 4, said point being of the ordinary triangular or arrow-head pattern. Movably secured to the beam at a suitable distance above the point and adapted to be adjusted vertically on the beam is an independent collar 5, the said collar being provided on both sides with vertical slots 6 and 6, and crossing said vertical slots at right angles are formed horizontal slots 6 and 6 In the curved portion of the beam apertures are provided for the bolts 7 and 7, which are inserted through one side of the collar, through the apertures in the beam, and extend beyond the surface of the opposite side of the collar, having suitable nuts threaded thereon. In order to permit the collar to pass over the laterallyextending wings 3 and 3 when it is desired to place the collar in its proper position on the beam or to remove a broken collar and replace same by a new one, the laterally-extend ing wings are bent in a position parallel with the foot-piece, when the collar can be put on or taken off, as desired.
On the rear of the collar 5 and formed integral therewith I provide a transverse bracket 8, having a longitudinal groove 9 formed in its upper surface and extending the length of the bracket. In the central portion the groove is cut through the bracket, forming a slot for the insertion of a bolt 10.
A bearing-box 11 for supporting the diskaxle 12 is provided with a projecting wing 13, said projectingwing having a lug 14, adapted to slide in the groove of the collar-bracket. The projecting wing has a slot in its central portion corresponding with the slot in the collar and through which the bolt 10 extends and said bolt having anut threaded thereon, The axle 12 is secured in the bearing-box by means of the thumb-screw l4, and the ends of the axle form bearings upon which the disks rotate.
The disks 15 have a hollow extension 17 formed integral with the body of the disk and which is adapted to seat over the end portion of the axle and which is held in place by a screw 16, inserted through the disk and threaded into the end of the axle.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that my invention can be applied tolisters which are operated by means of wheels or attached directly to the doubletree.
hen the operator of the lister desires to raise or lower the disks, so that they will not become clogged with roots, &c., he loosens the nuts on the bolts 7 and 7. The collar is then adjusted vertically by manipulating the collar in such manner that the bolt enters the vertical slot, and when the collar is of the height or depth required the bolt is forced into one of the short horizontal slots, the nut threaded tight, and it is evident that the collar is prevented from moving or loosing, as would be the case when only one slot is provided. Should the operator desire to adjust the disks either to the left or right transversely, he does so by the medium of the bolt 10, which permits the bearing-box to be adjusted to any desired position.
Having fully described my invention and the operation of the same, I desire it to be understood that while 1 have described a simple and preferred form of my invention I do not limit myself to the structural details herein set forth, but reserve the right to any changes, modifications, and alterations within the spirit and scope of my invention and which may be resorted to without sacrificing the utility of the same.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a lister, a beam having a curved portion downward, and terminating in a foot, laterally-extending wings formed integral with the foot, a lister-point suitably secured to the laterally-extending wings and foot, a collar adapted to fit over the curved portion of the beam, said collar being provided in each side with short vertical and longitudinal slots, a bracket formed integral with the collar, an axle-box provided with a wing, said wing provided with a transversely-extending lug, an axle and disks carried by the axle as and for the purpose described.
2. In a lister-plow, a beam having a downwardly-projecting portion terminating in a foot-piece, said foot-piece being provided with laterallyextending wings formed integral with the foot-piece, a suitable point secured to the wings and foot-piece, a collar provided with vertical and longitudinal slots crossing each otherat right angles, a bracket formed integral with the collar and provided with a transversely-extending groove, an axle-box having an extension-wingsaid extension-wing being provided with a transversely-extending lug adapted to seat in the transversely-extending groove carried by 'the bracket, means for securing the axle-box to the bracket, and an axle carried by the axle-box, means for preventing the rotation of the central part of the axle and disks having hollow extensions formed integral with the disk and means for securing the disks on the ends of the axle as and for the purpose set forth.
