SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 772,716, dated October 18, 1904.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. KIDDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window-Washers;

of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. v

This invention relates to window-washers, and particularly to a reservoir having afeedopening to cooperate with the washer.

The invention has for an object to provide reservoir having a reduced discharge portion disposed at an angle to the vertical axis of the reservoir and provided with an outlet adjacent to a rubbing material adapted to perform the washing operation whereby the movement of the reservoir in the act of washing the window causes a portion of the body of liquid therein to be projected automatically through the discharge-opening directly upon the window to be cleaned.

Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the apa pended claim.

The letter A designates a reservoir which may be of any desired material or configuration, but is preferably V- shaped, as shown, having atone side a discharge-passage A, having side walls converging toward theupperend thereof, where it is provided with anopening A The opposite side of the V shaped reservoir is likewise formed with con verging side walls, as shown at A and provided with afilling-opening A suitably closed, while intermediate of the reduced pora tubular socket A is protions A and A vided to receive a pole or. other support by which the washer is manipulated.

' The discharge portion A is provided at its upper outer face with a washing material of any desired character, preferably felt, as shown at B, which may be removably held in position by means of a clasp B, secured to the outer wall of the reservoir and provided with thickened outer edges B between which the felt B is disposed and secured by any desired meansfor instance, a cross-pin B as shown in Fig. 2.

The opposite wall A of the V-shaped portion is provided upon its upper edge with a holder (J, adapted to receive a drying-strip C, preferably of rubber, which is retained in position by the inward ly-bent edge C so that it can be removed and replaced whenever found necessary or desirable.

In the operation of the invention the reservoir is filled with water, fromwhich there is no escape except through the feeding action, which is accomplished in the reciprocation or other movement of the washer during the washing operation. It will be seen that, at such times the washer is inclined toward the window, and the greater body of water with -in thedischarge side of the reservoir will be given an independent motion at the time when the direction of movement ofthe reservoir 1s changed, which will project aportion thereof through the opening A above the washing material, so as to directly applythe necessary liquid at the desired point of application, while at all other times the reservoir may be safely handled without danger of leakage. When it is desired to dry the window, it is only necessary to reverse the position ofthe parts and bring the drying-strip into action, which when in its inclined position for that purpose carries the body of water sufficiently away from the discharge-passage to prevent any accidental escape therethrough. It willbe obvious that changes may be made in the details of construction and operation without departingfrom the spirit of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
