TO- ALL WHOM- IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, E. vB. WEST, of St. A ntlony, in the countyof Hennepin, and. in the State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Churn-Dash'; vand do hereby declare that the. fol- Y lowing is a. full, clear, and enact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters .of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making a part-of this specification, A represents a metallic plate, cast in the i form shown, withtwo jaws BB, anda ange, x, and shoulders or ears, z h.
Secured to and having a. bearing in the dang'ex, is a suitable shaft,` t, to which the gearl and crank-.wheel i C is fastened.
D represents a shaft,'having its bearings in the earsv h h, situated in a vertical position, and has the pinion l F4 secured to its upper end on anl arm, M, secured to its lower end.
Adjusted and working o ver the lower'end of the shaft D is a sleeve-shaft, which has apinion, H, secured to the upper end thereof, and the varm I at the lower end., I Y A I The gear-wheel C meshes with the pinions F and H at the top and bottom of it, and, when operated, turns them and their shafts in opposite directions. Secured Vor adjusted in' the arm M, at the opposite ends thereof,
are two dashers or agitators, L Land also, secured in the opposite ends of the arm I, are dashers or agitators K K.
An arm, N, is secured to the under side of the lowerjaw B, and projects down opposite the movable arms I and' M, and hasa stationarypaddle, O, secured' to it`in the manner shown, and just so that the agitators K K will work inside of it. v
. Through one of the jaws B, I Vadjust' a set-screw, P, by which this device may be secured to the edge or side of a table by slipping the lips or jaws B B over the same, and then tightening the same up by means of said screw.
This device, suspended or adjusted as above described, fis used by surrounding the agitators by any suitaj ble vessel, and as one remains stationary, and two move one way and two the" other, when power isapplied to the crankl the most complete and perfect agitation can be given to cream or milk, thereby making the-abovedescribed machine a superior churn-dasher.
Having thusl fuIly describedmy invention, what Iic'laim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The arrangement of -the arm N and stationary paddle O," as specified and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the stationary arm N and its paddle O with the movable arms M I, their paddles, and the plate A, all constructed and operated as specified.
In testimony that'I claim the foregoing, Ihav'e hereunto set my hand, this third day of March, 1868. E. B. WEST.
