GEORGE RAYMOND, OF FITCHBURG, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELE AND OLIVER I. CONKLIN, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.'
Letters Patent No. 77,914, dated May 12, 1868.
@its dgrbnl referat in im time tettitr ntnit mit mating mit uf tlginme.
KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS:
That I, GEORGE RAYMOND, ofl Fitchburg, inthe county of Worcester, and Commonwealth of Il/I'assmehusetts,l have invented certain' new and useful Improvements in Detachable Self-.Adjusting Noses for Bowls, Vandor other articles; and I do hereby declare that the following isla full, clear, and exact description of thesame,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which.-
.A bowl, having one of my detachable self-adjusting noses applied for use, is represented.
".Io enahll;` those skilled in the art to which my invention belongs to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe itdnore in detail.
In the drawings, the part marked A represents the bowl, to the upper edge or rim of 'which is fitted the j nose B, the part C being made incurred form, to fit the side of the bowl, while the part D is made toiit down upon the top of the bowl.
From the upper edge of the part C projects a lip, E, made concave, as shown inthe drawings, while ahole, l
a, is crt in the part D, just back of the lip E.
One or more loops, I), are attached to the part C ot the nose B, through which an endless band, c, of rubber or other elastic material, is passed, as indicated in the drawings.
IIn this instance, the nose B is made of thin sheet metal, but they may be made of rubber, or of any other suitable material.
Thenose may be made to tit any particular bowl, cup, tub, pail, or, any other article, orit may be made suiciently elastic and yielding to conform to differentv curves and dierent-sized articles. The elastic band c retains the nose in place. i
Inrsome cases it may be desirable to combine a strainer, F, with the nose. In this instance', the strainerF is {itted to slide between the guides d d, a lip, e, heilig attached or formed on che rear edge of the strainer, for the purpose of moving the latter back and forth in a convenient manner. i
For the sick-room and nursery, a bowl or cup having on an adjustable nose like the one above described is a great convenience, since it enables liquids to be turned or drank therefrom without liability of wasting the saine, or running it ovei upon thefioor'or clothing during the operation.
It is unnecessary to enunierate the many other adrantnges of my present improvementsrsiucc they willreadily suggest themselves to the mind.
Having described my improved detachable seliadjusting noses for bowls, and for other articles, what I claim therein as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a detachable nose for bowls and other articles, provided with one or more loops, b, as heroin described, of an elastic band, c, for holding the said nose to the bowl to which it is applied, substantially in the manner and for the purposes herein shown and speeied.
