HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,511, dated December 27, 1904;. Application filed March 16,1904. Serial No. 198,448.
To (l/ZZ whom/ it may concern.-
Be it known that I, H ENRY SroHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at l\ Iillersburg, in the county of Holmes and State of Ohio, have invented anew and useful Halter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to rope halters, and it has particular reference to a halter ma nufactured of a single piece of rope without the addition of clamping or connecting members, the object of the invention being to provide a halter of this class which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive, and capable of various adjustments.
ith these ends in View the invention consists in the improved manufacture of a rope halter, vhich will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointedout in the claims.
The accompanying drawing is a perspective view representing a simple and preferred form of embodiment of the invention, it being understood that changes and modifications maybe made within the scope of the invention and without departing from the spirit or sacrificing the advantages of the same.
The rope employed in the manufacture of my improved halter is formed into two loops or bights 1 and 2, the former of which constitutes the crown-band and the latter the nose-band. These loops or bights are connected at their points of intersection by partly separating or untwisting the ropestrands at the ends of the portion forming the nose-loop 2, two separate openings 3 4 and 5 6 being formed at each end of the noseloop. The openings 3 4 are formed upon the part of the rope the extension of which, 7, constitutes the lead-rope or tie-rope. The opposite end 8 of the rope, which passes through the opening 5 6, extends from thence upwardly to form a crown-band 1, theopposite end of which is reeved through the openings 3 4, from whence it is extended to form a loop 9, constitutingathroatlatch, the opposite end of which merges, with the nose-band, at the point of intersection, where the openings 5 6 are formed. At the opposite end of the nose-band,where the openings 3 4 are formed, the nose-band merges with the end which constitutes the lead-rope 7. The rope ends 7 and 8 cross each other above the throat-latch loop, as shown at 10, and again below the throatlatch loop, as shown at 11, and below said throat-latch loop the rope end which constitutes the lead-rope is untwisted at a plurality of points, as indicated at 12, for the passage of the rope end 8, which by being threaded through the openings thus formed from one side to another is interwoven with the rope end '7. Each of the rope ends 7 and 8 is provided with a knot at its free end, as shown at 13 and 14, each knot being for the purpose of preventing the rope from unraveling, and the knot 14. performing the additional function of preventing the rope end 8 from being withdrawn through the openings formed by the untwisting of the portion '7 of the rope.
The operation and advantages of myinvention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. It will be seen that only a single rope is employed in the manufacture of the device. It is obvious that at the intersecting points, where connections between the different members of the halter are effected, such connection is an adjustable one, the members being slidingly connected with each other at the points of intersection. At the same time the friction will be suflicient to prevent disengagement or displacement of the parts from taking place accidentally.
The halter may be readily adjusted upon horses or cattle, and it constitutes a simple, convenient, and economical and thoroughlyefiicient device.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. A rope halter consisting of a single rope forming loops or bights constituting a crownband, a nose-band and a throat-latch, said members connected at the points of intersection by threading parts of the rope through openings formed upon adjacent intersecting parts by partly untwisting the latter, the free ends of the rope, forming continuations of one end of the crown-band and one end of the noseband being crossed above and below the throatlatch, and connected adjustably below the latter.
2. A single-rope halter including a loop forming a crown-band and a loop forming a nose-band, the ends of the latter being untwisted, each, at two closely-adjacent points .for the passage of the ends of the crown-band loop, one extended end of the latter forming a throat-latch loop merging with the opposite end of the nose-band loop, and the other, opposite, extended ends of the latter and the crown-band loop crossing each other above and below the throat-latch loop and connected below the latter, slidably and adjustably by threading one free end to and fro through openings formed in the other free end by partially untwisting the latter at several points.
3. A single-rope halter including loops or
