PATENT OEEIcE.
FAUCET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,467, dated November 8, 1904.. Application filed December 26, 1903. $eria1No. 186,579. (No model.)
To all whmn it 77w, "UN/(367771.
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. DAWLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to faucets, and particularly to those intended for use in factories or dwellings which are provided with a steam -supply pipe, and aims to furnish a structure which shall advantageously serve as a unit where a number of persons are simultaneously desirous of using a faucet.
To the above ends primarily my invention is directed; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts herein, as described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a diagrammatic view of two of my new faucets and the adjacent pipes, wherein one faucet is shown in side elevation and the other in vertical central section. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of one of the faucets on line 0 {v of Fig. 1.
Like reference-letters indicate like parts throughout the views.
My novel faucet comprises a cylindrical chamber or body A, provided with a contracted lower portion (a, which afiords an outlet-passage b. The upper portion of the body has a threaded opening 0 to receive a waterpipe (Z, and its side is provided with an opening 0 to receive a steam-pipef.
Transversely disposed within the body A is a concave baffie-plate g with radial supports it, adapted to disperse the water descending from pipe (Z.
The water-pipe (Z and steam-pipe f are provided, respectively, with hand-operated valves t'and j, by means of which the volume and temperature of the water passing through the chamber A may be regulated to the preference of the user. The pipe (Z is connected with a water-supply pipe 70, which supplies a plurality of faucets, and the pipe f is connected with a steam-supply pipe Z, which also provides steam for a plurality of chambers.
It will be observed that the stream of cold water descending from the pipe (Z into the chamber A strikes and is dispersed by the concave baffie-plate g, whence the separated mass descends and finds egress through the passage 6. Meanwhile the ingress of steam through the pipe f heats the descending mass of water to a temperature determined by the adjustment of the valves 2' and j in relation to each other.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A mixingfaucet comprising a cylindrical chamber having a closed end, the opposite end thereof being contracted and provided with an outlet-opening, a water-inlet pipe leading into said chamber through said closed end, a steam-inlet pipe leading into the side of said casing, valves controlling said inlet-pipes, and a baffle-plate located within said chamber intermediate of the water and steam inlets and in line with said water-inlet and said outlet. 2. A mixing-faucet comprising a cylindrical chamber having a closed end, the opposite end thereof being contracted and provided with an outlet-opening, a water-inlet pipe leading into said chamber through said closed end, a steam-inlet pipe leading into the side of said casing, valves controlling said inlet-pipes, and a concave baffic-plate having arms or webs formed integral with the wall of said chamher, said baffle-plate being located intermediate of the water and steam inlets and inline with said Water-inlet and said outlet.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
