IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM-GENERATORS.

T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY OOIT CERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES SUTLIFF, of East Boston, in theounty of'Suiolk, and in the State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Bridge Wall; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making a partof this specification, Areprcsients a steam-boiler, and B the steamdriim thereof, constructed in any of the usual ways, and of dimensions to suit. C represents a'steam-bridge wall, made of boiler-iron, and hollow, the sides braced and held together by means of hollow bolts g. The bridge-wall C is made of anydesircd dimensions, and has the boiler A adjusted or securedv to or in the sides thereof, as shown, the top ol' said wall being-made concave, 'to correspond with the con'vexity ofthe boiler. A feed-pipe, d, connects vthis wall C with the boilenA, and through it water passes from' said boiler to feed or into the wall C. Steam-pipesffcon'nect the tcp of the wall C with the drum B of the boiler, o1' may connect with the boiler` direct when a drum is not used. i I
I It will readily be seen that all sediment and solid matter will pass down through the feed-pipe d into thewall C, an'd may be readily and conveniently cleaned out by means of a. man-.hole on one end,- and a pipe, h, provided with a cock, at the other end.- i
By the use of this wall it will be seen that much more steam is procured bythe same-{ire'or amount of fuel than by any other known device, and that the'boiler may be kept clean much easier.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent,is-, The hollow steam-bridge wall C, the sides braced by the hollow Abolts g ,g and connectedto the boiler-pipes f and d, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I l V In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 28th`-day of January, 1868. i i
