IMPROVEMENT In Listino-Janus.
tite tlgtttlt nimh-iu iii-115th irrite-rs `@nient mit mating peut tf tige smne.-
TO ALL WHOMV IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it knorvnthat we,'EznA S.-RouEnTsoN ,and AUSTIN-B. Connins, ,ofl Mount Liberty, in the county .of Knox, and State of Ohio, have invented a neiv and useful Improvement in Lifting-dachs; and We do hereh'y declare that thefollowing is a full, clenr, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a. partofthisspeciicaton, in which- 'Figure 1 is a sideelevation.
Figure 2 is a view in detail of liftingbl't.
Our invention'relatcs to an rimproved lifting-ja-ek, which i s peeuliirrly adapted to'liftin'g vehicles andsu cl1 other weights as require the application of mechanica-l power'.
It consists of- Y First,'inelevating a round har, which is locatedv in a suitable aperture in an upright standard, `hy a lever andwedge,..or compound lerer.A
' Second,` in thesxaid har'having attached, at its lower ,ertremityg av pulley, so'pivoted in the'forked endet' the'bzir as to project therefrom, and to impinge against and rotate upon a-,curved wedge, Whchwedge works'in a vertical quadrilaterahshaped slot in the middle of said standard, and which wedgeiis pivoted to alever or arm as aforesaid, and rests upon a pulley located in the lower p art of said aperture, the said-pulley beingdesigned.'
for the-reduction of friction.
Third, in a thumb-sereni, Workingr into and through the standard aforesaid, upon a plane'horizontal to the elerating-lialgjvhich is designed to pressagainst the said elevatingbar, and, byimpinging it in'a. groove formed. therein, to hold it rigidly at the point desired, and. thus, .in combination with the pivoted lever and the parts aforesaid, to act as an auxiliary forthe accomplishment of Vthe object specified. v i
A representsjthe upright standard, restingupon` a. platform, G, the said standard having a round aperture therein, extending from the .apen to about th'middlethereof, where it opens intollrertical quadrilateralshaped slot, a,' in the lower portion of ivhich aperture is located a pivoted pulley, b.
B represents the lifting-holt, having, ina forked'projeotion at its lower end, a pulley, c, rvhich'pulleyrests uponthceurvetl wedge aforesaid,-ad thus holds'the Weight steadfast at the desired elevation.
i C represents a eurved wedge, designed to Work in the vertical quadrilateral-shaped yslot,'a, aforesaid, and
to rest andwork upon a pulleyin the said upright standard. A
E represents avmaie screw, working into-and through a female screw in the upright standard, and which is designed to impingo ngainst'the lifting-holt in the groore d thereof, as aforesaid.
F represents an armor lover, hinged or pivoted atone end tothe uprightstandnrd, and near the apex thereof, -and to which arrnor lever-the wedge is pivot'ed, near the centre thereof,
Operation.
The niachine is' placed with its liftingholtB'under the object"to be` raised, andthe curved wedge C drawn through the quadrlaternl-shaped slot @as far as it will properly go, hyfthe operator taking hold 'of the leverF `and pulling it tou-ard him, which will raise'the object to a distance -equal to the-diierence between the extremif ties e e and ff of the wedge.
' Having thus fullydeseribed our inven-tion,what we claim therein asnew, and desire to secure Aby llietters- Patent, is-
. C'laz'm.
- com'hination and ar'rangementof the lifting-bolt B, having a groove, d, and pulley, c, with thestandard A., lever F, curved wedge C and thumb-screw E, the irhole when constructed and operating in the manner and for the purpose as her-ein shown and 'de-scribed.l v EZRA S. ROBERTSON,
