Thsinveution relates to an improved machine'for cleaning burrs from the h sr of the tails of horses and other animals, andnsists in a rotary fan-beater working upon the material s 1t passes over a spring-board or bottom, in order to crush the burrs, and loosen them from the-hair, as hereinafter full-y described. v

In a common box-i`rane, A, is mounted a rotary fan, B, placed atlone end, under which is placed a springf board, C, hung on pivots-at a, near its lower end, and placed 'at'an angle of about forty-live degrees, with its upper surface quite near the ends of the arms or beaters b I) ot the fan when they pass. The board C is supfA 'por-ted at the upper end by springs, c c, on each side, which are fastened to the under side of the feed-bed D.v

The machine operates by feeding the hair from the bed D, inns thin layers as i's practicable, over lthe top of the spring-board B, when, bythe rotation of the fan, the ends of the beaters strike and crush the mass of hair and burr against the board B, crushing the'burr's, so that they easily separate from the hair. The `board B is provided with springsfivhicli give way to adapt the passage of the hair tothe bulk, and prevent breakage and loss of hair. 4 I

Having .thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-#f The combination of the frame A, having feed-board D, the spring c,pivoted boa-rd C', and rotating covered beater B, all constructed, arranged, 4and operating as and for the purpose described.
