TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. IIERRING, of Bangor, in the county of Penobscot, and in the State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cant-Dogs;" and do hereby declare that the following` is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon'. y
In the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, A represents the stock o1' handle of a cantdog, provided with a. groove in one side, near the lower end, in which is placed a metallic bar or strip, B, which is itself provided with a lip, x, and a groove, in which the hook C is pivoted. O represents a hook, having a curved shank pivoted to the bar B, which is held in thc groove of the stock A by means of the rings or ferrules a a, said ferrules being provided with or having slots, c, of width equal to the thickness of the shank ol the hook O, which works therein, and is held so as to work only in a plane with the centre of the stock A. D represents a dog, of iron or other metal, ordinarily used in combination with a cant-hook.
The lip :E of the bar B is designed as a catch orhook for thc end of the stock A, when placed over the log to be turned.
Having thus fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pivoting of the hook C to the bar B, when said bar is provided with a lip, x, :ind constructed to operate substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 22d day of November, 1867.
