Be lit knownthat I, J'Acon A.'SHERMAN,of, the city'and 'State of New York, 'have invented, made, and applied to use, a certain new and useful Improvementin Trusses for Hernia; and Ido hereby declare the following to be o full, clear,- and exact description of the said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, w-hereinf- Figure 1 is a plan of saidtrnss, in about thev position it occupies`when drawn around the' body, and' Figure 2 is;arenr elevatioh of the pad-plate, audits connection to the spring. Similar marksof reference denote the same parts. v :My-present invention is n. inovable spring, carrying at its end the pad, 1n combination with a metal bar, 'extending around' .the person, the `position and pressure of the pad depending upon the amount which said spring projects beyond the end ofthe v said metal bar'. I alsoy unite the two metal bars employed by an adjustable hinge, and apply a inovlable wedge between the lapping parts of such bars, to regulate their relativo position and pressure on the spring'that carries the padfand is applied between these bars und the person. I mount the pad on a hinged plate, that is constructed so as to be used on the right or left side of the person.

The plate nhas, at its end, the intermediate plate-m, that extends to the pad-plate o, and is'united by a hinge. By this construction, the truss-padcan be almost rotated upon ltheserew joining m and 1t, so that its hinged end, and the pressure applied thereto, can be brought into any desired position in relation to' the hernia,

.and the yielding character of the spring I gives an agreeable but firm pressure upon the parts. A screw might,

What I claim, and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v l 1.
