PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. I-IEANY, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TOv THE TETER- HEANY DEVELOPING COMPANY, OF CHARLESTON, IVEST VIRGINIA, A CORPORATION OF WEST VIRGINIA.
FUSE-BLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 758,646, dated May 3, 1904.
Application filed October 12,1903.
T 0 a/ZZ whom/ t muy concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ALLEN HEANY, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fuse-Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a block or support for electric fuses or cut-outs; and in such connection it relates to the construction and arrangement of such a block or support.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a fuse-block of simple construction so arranged as to permit of the ready insertion or removal of the fuse and having metallic plates forming continuations for the terminals entering the base of the block, between which plates the fuse 'is adapted to be supported to bridge the terminals.
The nature and scope of my invention will be more fullj7 understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure l is a side elevational view of a fuseblock embodying main features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the block. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View of the block. Fig. 4 is a View, partly in side elevation and partly in section, of arnodiiied forni of block; and Fig. 5 is a cross-sectional view taken on Vthe line 5 5 of Fig. 4.
Referring to the drawings, a represents a block of dielectric material having a base from which projects upward at either end the extensions a. In each extension d is formed a horizontal recess or opening to receive atube of metal, into which tube o aterminal d or d' of the current extends. A set-screw 1)', travers- Ing a projection and a tube serves to bind 1 Serial No. 176,612. (No model.)
the terminal d or d to said tube b, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4.
In the form of block illustrated in Figs. l to 3 the inner face of each extension a is countersunk, as at a2, to receive the ends of a fuse, as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. In this form the countersunk portion a2 is forced, with ametallic plate o, forminga continuation or flange for the tube in which a terminal is secured.
In the form of block illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 the inner face of each extension is Hat and covered by a metallic plate 121, extending in the form of aiflange upward from the tube This form of block has projecting from its base the spring-clips z., arranged between the extensions Z) of the block to receive and hold the body of the fuse with its metallic ends in contact with the plates om.
Having thus described the nature and object of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A fuse-block of dielectric material, consisting of a base and two end extensions, in combination with two tubular metal pieces, each traversing an end extension of the block and arranged to receive the terminals of the block, a flat metal plate projecting upward from each tubular piece and constituting the inner face for a respective end extension, and a binding-screw traversing each extension and arranged to enter respectively a tubular metal piece to bind a terminal to said piece.
In testimony'whereof I have hereunto set my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN A. HEANY. Witnesses:
