COMBINED BOOK-MARKER AND LEAF-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 756,115, dated March 29, 1904.

Application filed July 18, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL LUDWIG HRAUDA, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Crouch End, in the county of MiddleseX, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Book- Marker and Leaf-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable'others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a combined bookmarker and leaf-holder which may be either book-cover for the purpose of holding down the leaves (particularly those on the right) while reading and of marking the place when the book is closed. p

In order that my invention may be more readily understood, I have caused to be attached hereto one sheet of drawings, in which similar letters refer to similar parts.

Figures 1 and 2 show the face and edge of the device, and Fig. 3 shows the shape of clip for temporarily fastening the device to cover.

The device consists of a clip A, which may be either permanently attachedto any book-cover by means of rivets or any other similar method, or for temporary attachment the clip A may be provided with spring B, in which case the said clip can be slipped onto any book-cover, Where will be held firm by means of the said springs B. The springs B are preferably spooned out at the end to prevent injury to the cover of the book. Projecting from the clip A is an arm C, with end D bent at right angles, as-shown in Fig. 1. At the angle between the arm C and D it is preferable to form a projection E, as shown in Fig. 1, to prevent the leaves of the book being torn; but, if desired, the angle may be formed with a Serial No. 116,078. plain bend. The end of D is spoon-shaped to prevent injury to the leaves of the book.

It Will be readily seen that the device may be stamped out of a flat sheet of material, a projection F, as shown in dotted line in Fig. 1, being stamped out at the same time and afterward bent round to form the clip A, as 7 over any desired page, thus forming a leafholder. The leaves may be slipped from under the said arm D as required. On shutting the book the armD remains between the pages ready for opening the book at the last page read.

j Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A combined book-mark and leaf-holder, composed of a flat strip of elastic metal C having one end bent over to form a clip A having parallel walls of sides, springs B B beneath the clip and the lateral extension D, located in substantially the same plane as the part C and adapted to hold the leaves of a book substantially as described.
