PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL E. MOORE, OF ADA, INDIAN TERRITORY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- TO I. H. VAN EATON, OF ADA, INDIAN TERRITORY. I
GROOERS CABIN ET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 755,156, dated March 22, 1904. Application filed August 13, 1903. Serial No. 169,367- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL E. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ada, in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grocers Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in grocers cabinets adapted for use in retailing sugar, salt, rice, and the like, and more particularly to a registering attachment therefor; and it consists, mainly, in the employment, in connection with a suitable casing, of a delivery hopper, intermediate measuring chambers, a discharge-chamber, and registering devices for indicating the number of discharges from each of the measuring-chambers.
Other improvements will be more particularly pointed out and readily understood from the following detailed description when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and wherein a preferable embodiment of my invention is disclosed for the purpose of illustration.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a longitudinal crosssection; Fig. 3, a transverse section; Fig. 4, a longitudinal cross-section of a modified form, and Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views of the registering attachment.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the several views, A represents an outer casing rectan gular in shape and formed of any suitable material, having front and back sections a; and Z),
respectively, and end sections 0. The casing A is arranged upon suitable leg-supports B, having cross-braces B intermediate the same at the ends of the'casing. These braces B, in addition to supporting the leg-supports B, may be utilized for supporting bags or the like, X. A metallic lining a is preferably arranged upon the interior of the casing A. A removable cover O, having a handle 0, is mounted upon the top of the casing A. Within the upper portion of the casing A and extending lengthwise of the same is a receivinghopper D, having a converging bottom d, terminating inoutlet-openings d. Sliding gates E, mounted in suitable ways 6, are arranged to normally close said openings d.
F represents a series of measuring vessels of varying capacities and have inlet and outlet openings and f, respectively, the inletopenings being arranged immediately below the outlet-openings d of the hopper D. Arranged to close the openings f are sliding gates Gr, mounted in" suitable ways f Ar- .ranged below the outlets f is a common discharge-chamber H, having a funnel-shaped bottom it, With an outlet it, below which may be placed one of the bags X or other receivingreceptacle for the measured product. Upon the front a of the casing A, adjacent each end thereof, is an outwardly-extended member J, to which are pivoted a series of double-acting levers I, which in turn are pivotally secured to the gates E and G at e and g, respectively, so that by the opening of'one of said gates the other will be closed, and vice versa. Said levers I have elongated extensions I, terminating in handles c', upon which extensions are mounted pawls arranged to engage ratchet-wheels K, mounted upon the frontof the casing, said pawls and ratchet-wheels being so arranged relative the one to the other that upon each opening of the gates G by the lever I the complementary ratchet-wheel is turned one ratchet.
L represents stops for preventing the backward turning of the wheels K. Around the periphery of the face of the ratchet-wheels K are arranged a series of numerals to indicate the numberof movements it has made from a given point 0 on the ratchet-wheel bearings 0. From. the foregoing description the operation of the device is apparent. The outlets f of the measuring-receptacles F being normally closed by the gates G and the outlets d of the receiving-hopper D being normally open, the product to be sold is placed in the hopper D, from which it passes by gravity to the various measuring vessels F, filling the same. The bag X being placed under the outlet h, the selected lever I is operated to open its cooperating gate G and to close the complementary gate E, thus releasing the desired amount of the product and at the same time turning the adjacent ratchet-wheel one point.
As shown in Fig. 4, the upper hopper D may be divided into a series of compartments D by the partitions D and various different articles or grades of articles placed therein. These various compartments D are arranged to communicate with the immediate measuring vessels therebeneath. The operation of this modified form is the same as that previously described.
Many minor changes may be made in the details of construction without in the least departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cabinet of the character described, the combination with a receiving-hopper, of a series of measuring vessels below the same and communicating therewith, outlets for the vessels, gates for closing the outlets, operating-levers upon the front of the cabinet for each of the gates, and individual indicating devices for each of the vessels mounted in suitable bearings upon the front of the cabinet and operatively associated with the respective levers, the indicating characters of said devices facing forwardly relative to the front of the cabinet.
2. In a grocers cabinet, the combination with the casing, of a receiving-hopper, a series of measuring vessels below the same,'and communicating therewith, outlets for the vessels, gates for closing the outlets, outwardlyextended brackets upon the front of the easing adjacent its opposite sides, operating-levers for the gates pivoted to the brackets, supplemental brackets upon the front of the casing adjacent each of the measuring vessels and an individual indicating device the vessels mounted upon said supplemental brackets and operatively associated with the respective levers.
3. In a cabinet of the character described, the combination of a receiving-hopper, a series of measuring vessels below the same, and communicating therewith, inlets and outlets for the vessels, gates for closing the outlets, operating-levers upon the front of the cabinet for each of the gates, and indicating devices for each of the vessels mounted in suitable bearings upon the front of the cabinet and operatively associated with the respective levers, said indicating devices comprising a rotary disk, and characters on the periphery of the disk facing forwardly relative to the front of the casing.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
