PLASTIC FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,119, dated March 8, 1904.
Application filed October 12, 1903.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHN C. BROOKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Coles and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plastic Fence-Posts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to improvements in artificial-stone posts for fences; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of the same whereby the line-wires of a wire fence are held to the post and retained in position by tie-wires, all as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1 represents a side View of my improved artificial or plastic fence-post. Fig. 2 is a front or face wiew of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View, and Fig. 4: is a central vertical sectional view.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the fence-post, which is formed of plastic material by means of molds of different sizes in order to produce the desired height and thickness, as may be required. The post A is provided with horizontal openings at, which are arranged in a vertical line and are designed to receive the tiewires a of the fence, said tie-wires being passed therethrough and are retained thereby in position,while the opposite free ends a are wrapped Serial No. 176,747. Within these openings for the tie-wires may be arranged metal tubes 0, at the option of the manufacturer, through which said tiewires may be passed and form a solid lining 49 for the opening. These tubes may have a flange g and Wings e for the purpose of preventing endwise movement thereto, thus preventing displacement. It Will be seen that the openings extend entirely and horizontally through the plastic fence-post, and the tiewires being free and loose therein can be readily and easily replaced should they rust and become broken, and in building my fence one or more tie-wires may be dispensed with, and a device as herein shown and described is ornamental, durable, as well as cheap to manufacture.

A plastic fence-post provided with transverse tubes for the tie-wires, each tube having end flanges and lateral wings, whereby the tubes are prevented from endwise displacement substantially as described.
